Anne Morrell and program speaker Julie Carney

Program:

Anne Morrell
introduced Julie Carney, whose love for the Youth Exchange Program shows through in all her words and pictures.  Joining Avon Rotary in 2010, Julie knew she wanted to get involved with the Youth Exchange from the start.  "The youth are our future Rotarians," Julie says.  "My mission is to go to Rotary Clubs and promote this wonderful program and the youth involved with it."
She talked about the three types of exchange: the year-long outbound, the year-long inbound and the short-term summer exchange.  She covered the basics about cultivating the culture within the club, inviting past Exchange Students to meetings, inviting host parents, school personnel, and the importance of being involved with each Exchange Student during their time in your town.
"It's all common sense", said Julie.  "You can't go wrong as long as you follow some basic tenets like:  Be curious, be involved, be courteous, be of service, be here and now, be on purpose, and be grateful."  There are a few "Nos" in respect to the students:  "No drinking, driving, downloading, dating, deformation, dating and drugs."  A video enhanced Julie's presentation.

50/50 Raffle:  Won, "coincidentally?" by our very own Exchange Student, Julia.
