Fines, Happy Bucks, Confessions:
• Mark (and Kim) confessed to 18 days in Alaska, where they were having the warmest summer in 8 years.  Temps each day were in the low to mid 70’s with almost no rain.  Their host owns a plane, and they were flown all over the state.  Kim caught a salmon.  Beautiful landscape abounds; they highly recommend Alaska as a vacation destination.  Mark avoided the vacation fine, as he purchased the exempt badge at last month’s assembly.  Strangely, the physical badge was missing from the case at the time of that auction.
• Dick offered a buck for being happy to have our songleader back.
• Mary Courtney tells us the driveway dumpster has been pulled and weighed.  She literally got rid of a ton of stuff!
• Margaret attended her granddaughter’s graduation party.
• Bill Dean offered a happy buck in honor of prospective member Marie being back with us again.
• Bob Yost paid a reasonable fine for “finking.”
• Pam had a happy buck for winning some money at a recent golf tournament.
• Joan was happy to report that her sister, who recently gave Las Vegas a trial run, has found an apartment in Palmyra.

Notes and Updates for the Club:

- Members voted today to approve 2 changes in the club’s bylaws.  Meetings of the board of directors will be held on the second Thursday of each month (changed from the third Thursday).  The fifth avenue of service is now “Youth Service” (change of name from “New Generations” as approved by the 2013 Council on Legislation).

- Bob Sloan is seeking volunteers to sell raffle tickets at the PMYF&C Charity Bowl August 17.  Proceeds from this event go to Camp Onseyawa.  Volunteers are need from approximately 8:30 to 1:00 that day.  Contact Bob for more info or to volunteer.

- The Wayne County Fair is upon us!  Sign-up sheets for our food booth are being passed.  This is our second biggest fund-raiser and is always a lot of fun.  Kim tells us there are still plenty of shifts available for you to come and “Engage Rotary.”  Volunteers are very much needed!

- Some members have expressed an interest in purchasing PM Rotary golf shirts, aprons, hats, and Rotary pins.  Pam passed around a sheet, asking members to indicate if they would be interested in these items.  This is simply to gauge interest, and is not a commitment.  Once the demand is determined, we will look into getting the supply.

- The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation recently announce that it will match 2:1 donations made to Polio Plus by Rotarians, up to $35 million over 5 years.  (The Gates Foundation will donate as much as $70 million.)

- The Camp Onseyawa carnival takes place on August 25.  Our club is seeking volunteers to help set up and run the games.

- A Palmyra girl has been accepted to Camp Onseyawa, but needs transportation to and from camp.  She would need a ride to camp on Monday 8/19, from camp on Friday 8/23, to camp on Sunday 8/25 and from camp on Friday evening 8/30.  Please check your e-mail for details from Dianne Sloan; respond to her if you can help out.

- District Golf Tournament is scheduled for Friday, September 13.

- Canaltown Days is September 13 and 14.

- District Governor Ellen Hughes’ official club visit will be October 12.

- The board of directors has received and approved a membership proposal for Marie Cramer.  Club rules require this to be published in two consecutive newsletters, allowing current members the opportunity make comments to the board.

Congratulations to the high bidders in this month’s assembly auction: Gene Bassage, Joan Shaffer, Vicky Daly, Eric Chapman, and Rory Sloan.  Items were donated by Gene Bassage, Margaret Brooks, and Pam Dean.  Thank you!

Eric Chapman won the bidding on the Exempt Badge for the month of August.
