This week, we took a little “field trip” and had our meeting at the newly constructed Mark’s Pizzeria in Palmyra.  Several Rotarians braved the weather to attend our slightly less formal meeting.

Guests:

Prospective member Maurina Schmidt and her husband John, Katie Read, Amber Jenkins, and Szabi.

Missing in Action:
Gene Bassage, Brian Brooks, Wayne Brophy, Marie Cramer, Cheryl Ford, Gary Haigh, Bob Ike, Dick Kirchhoff, Debbie LeMoyne, Peter Park, Arnie Pechler, Dave Pray, Cindy Surline, Eric VanZeilen, Leslie Vecchiotti, Andy Wahl, Roger Wilbur.

Singing:
Kim had another original composition for us today about Mark’s Pizzeria being back in Palmyra.

Fines, Happy Bucks, Confessions:

• Kim had a happy buck for the Wayne County Rotary Spelling Bee, in which our team made it through the break before being eliminated.  Our team, BBLT, was Kim, Leslie and Tom.

• Dave S confessed to having seconds today.
• Bill offered a buck because the large prop check at the Spelling Bee was made by Bob Daly.
• Dianne happy-bucked for the successful Dictionary/Thesaurus project.  She got a text from a friend who said her son was happy to get a book from “the Rodeo.”
• Mark Clement offered a buck in thanks to Joan and Margaret for their help at the Murder Mystery Dinner.
• Maurina told us how she spent quite a bit of time tracking down an elusive smoke detector whose battery was dying.  Following the beeping, she eventually found it in a box on a shelf.  Her husband John also pitched in, saying he was happy to be with us on “such a beautiful day.”
• Pam confessed to a roaming dinner badge, and also apologized to Bob Yost for stealing his job when she introduced our guests today.

Bob and Dianne Sloan offered a fun “program” at the meeting.  We played a variation of the game Balderdash.  In the original game, players are given a word and write down either what they think it means or a definition they hope the other players will think is correct.  They get points for giving the correct definition, but also earn points if other players pick theirs.  In our version, members were grouped into teams by table, and asked to write down a fact about each person on their team.  One of the facts was to be incorrect.  The other teams then had to choose which of the “facts” was false.  The winning team received gift certificates to Mark’s.  It was a fun way to learn a little more about each other.

Our 50/50 winner this week was Joan Shaffer, who won $10.

On Wednesday evening, February 12, we held our annual Dessert Auction to benefit the Rotary Foundation.  Members provided two identical desserts - one for sampling, one for auction.  Several Rotarians and their guests attended and enjoyed sampling the desserts before bidding.  Members paid $5 at the door, in satisfaction of their "Gimme 5" promise.  The auction was quite successful, raising an additional $375 for the Rotary Foundation.

Dave Stachnik had the first winning bid, earning him pick of the table.  Here he appears to be
deciding how much of the cake needs to make it home to be shared with his wife.
