Dianne’s sister-in-law is not doing well. She has been in hospital for some time and may likely not leave.

Shirley’s brother Bob is in hospital and is not expected to live much longer.

The families of the reporter and cameraperson who were murdered during a live interview in Virginia this morning.

What’s New With Sofia?

She was selected for the varsity cheerleading team. She visited Lake Ontario with Marty’s family and did some kayaking, which was fun. They went to Seabreeze. This weekend is Youth Exchange orientation at the YMCA in Clifton Springs. Then, on Monday she is going with the Medinas to Walt Disney World in Florida.

Birthdays and Anniversaries:

Thursday, 8/27 is a very important anniversary for the Medina’s. It will be 23 years since Tina’s heart transplant.

Fines, Happy Bucks and Confessions:

• Gary Hopkins had a happy buck for the Pal-Mac Cheerleading Team, who went to Cheer Camp in Pennsylvania. They did very well, taking second place, over Mount Olive. Mount Olive is huge; they win matches all the time. Gary’s daughter Ashlyn and Nicole Baker were selected All-American.

• Dave Pray spent the week in Washington, DC visiting his son and daughter (John and Betsy). They are doing well, both gainfully employed with safe places to live and are very happy there.

• Bob Ike had a happy buck for his daughter Grace who had a birthday on Monday.

• Charlie had a happy buck saying, “I have a dog.” It’s a Goldendoodle. She also was enjoying her soup - in a coffee mug, with a Huge spoon!

• Nancy spent a week in Wisconsin visiting family.

• Jim Bush had a happy buck for Marty Medina, who is Jim’s publisher. He helped Jim put together a children’s book, "The Almost Amazing Bernaldo - and his Very Tricky Friends.”

• Marty also had happy bucks: One is for Jim Bush for being a fantastic children’s book author. The other is for the learning experience from hosting Sofia. In Spain, they eat dinner around 10 or 11 pm. So, they tried it a couple times, and he says it’s fantastic. When you come home from work, you can relax not having to worry about preparing a meal. Instead you can spend some time with the family, hang out, etc. Then around 9:30 you get dinner together. After dinner, you’re full and tired, so you sleep better.

• Peter took Jonah to a Cub Scout adventure for the last time, as Jonah is transitioning to Boy Scouts. He also took a family trip to Maine, where many lobsters were consumed.

• Gene and Shirley were very happy to be here, and had “a couple bucks to spare.” We happily accepted them.

• Maurina had a happy buck for her experience supporting the Fair Booth as assistant BB-in-training. No major catastrophes occurred, although she confessed to being an accomplice to a motor vehicle citation, details of which will have to wait.

• Bob Sloan and Dianne helped out at the Camp Onseyawa carnival this past weekend. The junior Sloans were instrumental in helping out with the games. A good time was had by all.

Notes and Updates for the Club:

- A signup sheet will for Canaltown Days weekend is making the rounds at our meetings. Please help out if you can, and in the meantime keep selling those tickets!

- The Purple Painted Lady Barn Sale is coming up Saturday, September 26. Again this year, our club is handling the parking for the event. A signup sheet is being passed and we need lots of help. Last year, we raised over $3000 from this one-day event. We have several shifts, none of which is more than a couple hours. If you can, please sign up to help out – it’s been a fun and profitable event for us in the past.

- The dictionaries and thesauruses have arrived. Gary Haigh is hosting a labeling party at his house on Wednesday, Sept 2.

- Our club assembly on September 30 will also be the Official Visit of our District Governor Bill Gormont. We always have a strong show of support for our DGs and hope to see you there.

- AG Pam reminds us that there is a District Literacy Seminar on Saturday 9/19 at the Rotary Room in Clifton Springs Hospital, from 8:45 – 11:15. Also, there is a One Summit meeting on Saturday 9/26 at Harris-Beach in Pittsford. Both events are morning events, so there would be plenty of time to attend them and still help out with our fundraising events afterwards. (Hint, hint.)

- The Pal-Mac Interact Club is hosting a blood drive at the PM High School on Friday, September 18. The club has earned $400 in scholarships the past two years. Red Cross rewards them with a $250 scholarship for meeting the number of units goal, and an additional $150 if you exceed the previous year’s total. So that’s two years in a row that they have exceeded their goal.

This month’s assembly auction raised $72 for the Rotary Foundation. Thanks to Margaret, Tom, and Dick for donating items, and congratulations to Gary, Leslie and Dick for having the winning bids.

Bob Sloan gets the exempt button for September with his winning bid of $12.

Pat VerPlank won $11 in the 50/50 this week, which she donated to Sofia.

Next meeting: Noon, Wednesday 9/2 Palmyra American Legion.
