Shelter Box USA continues its mission to help provide the victims of disasters here and abroad with the materials they need to recover; and the organization continues to grow, as it now has a dedicated employee serving the Chicago region -- helping to spread its message to Rotary and the world beyond.
Amanda Runge from Shelter Box says they continue their traditional work, shipping their now-iconic green boxes to disaster sites around the world. The centerpiece remains the tent, and they now offer several different styles...including one for the tropics, and a winterized version for cold-weather sites. The boxes are now packed according to the demands of a particular disaster site; they can be tailored with water filtration and mosquito netting, scarves and hats, stoves, kitchen utensils and any other equipment needed for the locations they get sent to.
And they also provide Shelter Kits -- smaller packages with basic tools and materials, allowing disaster survivors whose homes remain at least partially intact to do repair work and remain where they live.
The Sycamore Rotary Club donates annually to Shelter Box, providing $1,000 to help outfit a complete Box for deployment to a disaster scene somewhere in the world; more information can be found at www.shelterboxusa.org

A new Facebook discussion group for Sycamore Rotarians and the community at large has officially come on line.
This group is open to the general public, as well as Rotarians; it will serve as a venue for discussion about what Rotary does, how you can get Rotary to help you or your organization, and how you can become a member.
Rotarians are needed to sign up for delivery of Meals on Wheels during the month of August; our Rotary Club will again be delivering meals in Sycamore, on behalf of the Voluntary Action Center.
Sign up for a weekday route between August 1st and August 31st; one or two people are needed each day. Meals should be picked up at VAC's headquarters on Bethany Road at about 10:30 each morning; delivery should take about an hour.

On Saturday, September 9, 2017, Andy Grammer will be headlining a concert at River's Edge in Aurora to help raise awareness for SUDC.
Joining Grammer will be musicians Ali Morgan and Marty Casey; gates open at 6 p.m. with the show beginning at 7 p.m.
Answers4SUDC is an innovative charitable effort to honor the memory of Emmett Frank while raising awareness and funds toward research and family support for Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood.
By hosting Answers4SUDC, his parents Jeff and Kristy Frank hope to someday prevent the tragedy of Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) so that no other family might have to endure this loss. Proceeds benefit the SUDC Foundation.
