Guest Speaker: DG Kathy Kwiat-Hess
Because she's now charged with leading District 6420, and its ongoing effort to attract new and younger members, Kathy Kwiat-Hess remembers how difficult it was for her to first become engaged in Rotary...to the point where she almost quit.

In making her official visit to the Sycamore Rotary Club, DG Kathy recalled her early days as a member of the Rockford Rotary Club; she found herself with few people to talk with, and wasn't finding any club activities she could latch on to.  But instead of quitting, she had some help from a fellow Rotarian who got her involved with a club project -- and bit by bit, she rose through the ranks to become a key member of her Club, and now the District Governor.

Reaching out to potential members, and making sure they find something that keeps them motivated to stay and grow with their club, is to her one of the key objectives of this year's theme, "Be the Inspiration."  DG Kathy says for local Rotary Clubs, the effort to bring in new Rotarians starts with making the Club not only well-known but interesting...and continues after someone joins, by making sure they can pursue or find the aspect of Rotary which fuels their own passion.

She lauded the Sycamore Rotary Club for being one of the strongest in the district, for its variety of projects and its effort to bring in, retain and develop new Rotarians.  The Club earned a Presidential Citation last year, and she believes it's in good shape to repeat during the coming Rotary year.

Most Meals on Wheels slots filled, but a few remain
We now have minimum coverage on all of our Meals on Wheels dates during the month of August; at least one Rotarian has signed up for every weekday during the month.

But there are still a few dates with only one Rotarian working; we want to have two signed up each day, to provide backup and extra assistance while delivering meals around Sycamore.

The remaining single-Rotarian dates are August 1,7, 9, 10, 23, and 31; please contact Ray Dembinski, if you are available to help on any of these days.

Sycamore Rotary to have booth at downtown car show in July
Volunteers will be manning a Rotary booth to be set up in downtown Sycamore, during the annual Fizz Ehrler Memorial Turning Back Time Car Show.  It will be in operation on Sunday, July 29th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Rotarians will be watching over the booth and interacting with the public, answering any questions they may have.  Our schedule for the day:
     9:00   Paul Callighan, Lavarre Uhlken
    10:00  Steve Kuhn
    11:00  Marcy Buick
    12:00  Dave McCann
     1:00   Jim Stoddard
     2:00   Renae Wilkinson, Brian Adams
Since parking is at a premium, volunteers are invited to park at either the Pay it Forward House, or at Lavarre Uhlken's house at 315 W. Ottawa Street.

The Rotary display will be on Somonauk Street, in front of the bank.
