Give DeKalb County goes live on May 4th, and dozens of local not-for-profit agencies hope to benefit from this day-long on line donation drive. Michelle Donahoe from the Sycamore History Museum told the Rotary Club about plans for this year's event.

Donors can go to the site at www.givedekalbcounty.org from midnight to midnight on May 4th, and donate to the local charity of their choice. Participating agencies will also receive a percentage of a bonus pool, based on how much they collect that day.

Last year, a computer problem with their vendor knocked their site off line from about noon to 8 p.m. -- the prime hours for donations. But this time around, they are using a new vendor which will make their campaign its sole project for the day; they have multiple contingency plans ready, in case any other problems crop up.

And donors can also go to the DeKalb County Community Foundation's headquarters from 8:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. that day to give in person.

April Student of the Month: Kimberly Sims

Kimberly Sims is the Sycamore Rotary Club's Student of the Month for April; motivated by the death of her grandfather due to heart failure, she plans on becoming a cardiologist after graduating from Sycamore High School.

In recognition of her efforts, the Sycamore Rotary Club has provided her with $100 for donation to the charity of her choice; she has selected Laurie Children's Hospital in Chicago, which specializes in infant and child heart conditions.

Dave Miller nominated to Sycamore Rotary Board

Dave Miller has been nominated to the open seat on the Sycamore Rotary Club's Board of Directors; he was formally nominated at the Rotary meeting on Wednesday, April 5th.

In keeping with the club's bylaws, he will remain as the nominee for 30 days; that means he would be eligible for election on or about May 10th. He would officially begin his term at the end of June, after the installation of Eric Jones as our new Club President.

Dave would serve as Rotary Club President in 2020-21

Preparations underway for Hula-for-Loota

Rotary's annual taste of Hawaii returns on Thursday, April 20th as we host the annual Hula-for-Loota bash at Chapel in the Pines.

This annual night of fun will help raise monies for the Sycamore Rotary Club's scholarship fund; we will have the traditional draw-down raffle, with numbers being eliminated one by one...until we get down to the final number(s), and the winner of our grand prize of $3,000.

We'll also have a 50/50 drawing, gift baskets and cash prizes for giveaway during the drawing, food and a cash bar for all participants.

If you would like to donate a gift to our prize baskets, or buy a number in our draw-down, contact Paul Michel at any upcoming Rotary meeting.

Sign-up sheets will be going around at all upcoming Rotary Club meetings, as we seek volunteers to help out with our Rotarians at Work Day projects.

You'll be needed on Saturday, May 6th from 9:00 a.m. until noon at our work sites -- the Pay it Forward House, Rotary Park at Sycamore Lake, and the Kishwaukee SRA office at Hopkins Park in DeKalb.

If you're unable to join us that day, we are also collecting items for the Amazing Grace Organization. This not-for-profit agency collects items for placement in care packages to cancer patients; Interact will be setting up collection boxes on the Sycamore H.S. campus, and would like to find other businesses around town to put boxes in. If you would like to provide space at your business for a collection box, you may contact Interact through Ben Swedberg at ben.swedberg@gmail.com
