Curt Lang has spent the past few months making the transition from his seat on the Sycamore City Council to the Mayor's Office...and he says it's given him a new perspective on how well Sycamore is doing.
Curt gave the Rotary Club a photo montage tour of the city's businesses, from east to west, during the August 2nd meeting. He notes the many changes we've seen in just the past few years; a number of downtown businesses have changed hands, but most stores in the business district have tenants and remain open for business.
He says City Manager Brian Gregory has played an important role in Sycamore's business development, directing the design and landscape of the city to give it a consistent feel. And in a time when people are more mobile, and quicker to judge the look of a town...he says he has yet to meet anyone who has expressed a desire to get away from Sycamore.
The Sycamore Rotary Club welcomes Renae Wilkinson as its newest member; she was officially sworn in at the July 26th meeting, and is already planning on taking an active role in Rotary.
Renae works with DNA Communications, and was sponsored by its founder and much-traveled Sycamore Rotarian Ahmed Kamel; she is scheduled to give her official Classification Speech at the August 30th Rotary meeting.
The final opening for our Committee Chairs for this year has been filled; Don Clayberg has agreed to oversee the Fundraising Committee for 2017-18.
As a Past President and Past District Governor, Don's credentials speak for themselves; he will be in charge of overseeing events including the Pancake Breakfast, Hula-for-Loota, the weekly raffle and fines.
The committee will also set fundraising targets, identify new fundraising activities and coordinate existing fundraisers.
Several important Rotary Club positions still need to be filled for the coming year, including:
Club Photographer -- If you have a still or video camera, we can use your help in documenting Rotary meetings, projects or special events. If you are interested, please contact Brian Adams at brianadams62@hotmail.com or Paul Barnaby at papabear@barnaby.com
Sergeants-at-Arms -- A Sergeant-at-Arms is responsible for helping with setting up meeting rooms, storing and transporting Club property, and monitoring safety at all Rotary events. Help is needed before all Club meetings; please contact Brian Adams at brianadams62@hotmail.com for more information
A new Facebook discussion group for Sycamore Rotarians and the community at large has officially come on line.
This group is open to the general public, as well as Rotarians; it will serve as a venue for discussion about what Rotary does, how you can get Rotary to help you or your organization, and how you can become a member.
