The Sycamore Rotary Club will hold its Perfect Attendance Luncheon during the Rotary Club meeting on Wednesday, August 26th.  All Rotarians who had 100% attendance during the 2014-2015 Rotary year will be honored during the meeting.

 

Rotarians are reminded about the need for consistent attendance; it not only keeps them involved with club business, but permits them to get to know their fellow Rotarians better.  And both enable us to continue our mission to provide Service Above Self for the Sycamore community.

 

You are encouraged to make up at other Rotary Club meetings, or participate in Rotary Club projects.

 

 

Even though the proposed merger of Kishwaukee Community Hospital with Northwestern Hospital's system still requires state and federal approval, the staff of each organization is already planning the details for integration of their respective system.

 

Kevin Poorten is CEO of KishHealth Systems, which he says has been courted by other health organizations before Northwestern took active steps to add them on.  He says KishHealth had been drawing attention from other health providers around the region, and even some from other states have been known to come by and see how certain procedures of theirs can be applied to their local hospitals.

 

Poorten says they have to wait until all interested government bodies sign off on the planned merger; if and when that happens, then integration can begin.  He says their inclusion in the Northwestern system will give local patients access to more sophisticated treatment when needed...much of it aimed towards hospitals to the east of DeKalb.

 

 

 -- Darion Page (pictured, left) was formally sworn in as the newest member of the Sycamore Rotary Club; he works in sales at DeKalb- Sycamore Chevrolet Cadillac GMC.  Here, he receives his new Rotary pin from President-Elect Sue Emberson.

 

 -- The meeting started off with the sad announcement of the sudden passing of Tom Zucker; he had been Executive Director of the Voluntary Action Center for 24 years.  The Sycamore Rotary Club extends its condolences to his friends, colleagues and family.

 

 -- Two Sycamore Rotarians leveled up as Paul Harris Fellows; Fred Peltz received his PHF +6 pin, while Riley Oncken received PHF +2.

 

 -- At the request of various members, the Rotary Club will be making a change in the awarding of the John W. Ovitz, Jr. Rotarian of the Year Award.  In past years, previous winners have been declared ineligible for further awards; but beginning in 2016, winners will be eligible again after five years. 

 

 

July 1, 2015, marked the beginning of the Rotary Global Rewards program, which offers discounts on car rentals, hotels, dining, and entertainment to all Rotarians.

The program has already amassed a great number of merchants, with more products and services discounts being added regularly.

The inaugural Ben Dover Memorial Golf Outing will be held for all District 6420 Rotary Clubs on Monday, September 14th; it will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Timber Creek Golf Course in Dixon.

 

This event is designed to be fun, but be ready -- it's not your typical golf outing.  Irish Rules will be in effect...which means anything can happen!

 

Proceeds will be split between Polio eradication efforts, and youth programs at the District Conference.  The deadline to register is September 4th; for more information, go to the event website
