The Sycamore Middle School Interact Club was at the February 28th Park District Board meeting to present a check for $500 to the District's Leaf a Legacy campaign.

Club members say the group selected this cause because they knew it would benefit Sycamore's youth for many years. They raised the money by selling concessions at Middle School basketball games.

Leaf a Legacy supports the District's long-range plan ACTION 2020. This gift, along with many many others, has helped the campaign reach $918,000 of its $1 million goal.

The DeKalb County Health Department has been serving the residents of our area for over 50 years, dealing with a number of public health and safety issues; but for the first time ever, the department is seeking help from the taxpayers to keep their operations going.

Michael Haines appeared at the March 1st Rotary Club meeting to discuss the upcoming April 4th referendum, asking voters to approve additional property taxes to go towards Health Department services.

He says that grant monies have been the main source of revenue for the Department for years; but those funds are declining, and they must now turn to the public for help.

Taryn Mathey may have been a bit taller than most girls her age, but when her parents first had her try out for youth basketball...she didn't take to the sport right away.

But she persisted, and by the time she made it to Sycamore High School she was accomplished enough to play on the Spartans' regional championship teams from 2015 and 2017. She also played on last fall's soccer squad, which wound up finishing 3rd in the IHSA state tournament.

Off the court and the field, Taryn has made the Academic Honor Roll four straight years; she is a National Honors Society member, and has volunteered with Big Sis, Little Sis and Feed My Starving Children...as well as a kids sports camp for basketball.
