Veterans who are also members of the Sycamore Rotary Club were saluted by their fellow Rotarians at the regular meeting on Veterans' Day; each of these vets received a special Rotary pin, commemorating their service.

Tim Suter had for years been interested in helping Feed My Starving Children at one of its regional packing centers; but when he found out they also travel to other sites for weekend-long packing campaigns, he sought to get involved.

Suter joined with other Sycamore residents in bringing the first Make a Difference DeKalb County packing event to the area in 2010; since then, it's become an annual event attracting thousands of volunteers from around the county...and the facilities at The Stuter Company proved to be ideal for this purpose.

Suter has worked with Rotarian Heidi Wright to line up volunteers and donations for the four-day packing event, which begins on Thursday, November 12th. Between the various Rotary Clubs and their affiliates, over $7,500 has been contributed to FMSC.

 

Sycamore Rotarian Paul Stromborg and his wife Marilyn are currently visiting India; they were able to meet with a couple of New Delhi Rotarians to discuss the the progress of the Indian End Polio campaign.

The Rotarians took them to meet with the Chief Medical Office in charge of the vaccination program for the district in and around Delhi. They will be touring the countryside on November 22 when the next NID (National Immunization Day) occurs.

 

 

Rotarians wishing to travel to India and experience the effort to wipe out polio, are invited to join the official District 6420 delegation in a trip to the country early next year.

 

 

Our program will travel to Delhi, India, where we will participate in the polio NID activities and attend other related Rotary events.  This trip also includes travel to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal, and Jaipur to visit the famous Rotary Jaipur Limb factory, and enjoy this extraordinary city.

Per Person Cost, based on double occupancy:  $2,249.  This price does not include international, roundtrip airfare or Indian visa fees.  However, it does include hotels, transfers, Rotary events, participation in the NID activities, most meals, sightseeing, English speaking guide and other items as stated in the attached document.

Air Reservations:  Participants are free to secure their own air reservations using their frequent flyer mileage, or individual purchase.  Howard Tours will be happy to help you purchase airline tickets, which can be requested on the trip application.

Visas: All U.S. citizens will need to secure an Indian visa.  We will give our members specific information about how to secure the visa when we send the confirmation documents.  It is important that our tour do not attempt to secure the Indian visa before receiving our information.

Travel Vaccines:  We recommend that all participants visit the Centers for Disease Control Web site:  http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/destinations/india.htm  to determine what vaccinations may be needed for this trip.  We suggest that members visit this web site, print out the material and visit a doctor, or travel doctor, to determine what vaccinations or treatments may be needed for this trip.

This group will be limited to approximately 35 people, and confirmation in the program will be on a first come, first served basis.  To join us, please complete and sign the application on page five of the attached document.  Please make sure to include the requested credit card authorization for the cost of the program.  Over the last two years, this program sold out in less than two weeks.

The Salvation Army and the Marine Corps League of DeKalb County are again collecting donations for this year's Toys for Tots drive; and the Sycamore Rotary Club will be doing its own collection at the December 2nd meeting.

 

Rotarians are asked to bring in one new, unwrapped toy for donation to Toys for Tots; these will be presented to the Salvation Army at the annual Toys for Tots Benefit Concert in downtown DeKalb on Sunday, December 6th.  That show will be held at The House Cafe, with Rotarian Brian Adams serving as the master of ceremonies; it will be from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. and admission will be one new, unwrapped toy.

 

 

The Sycamore Rotary Club will again be helping the Salvation Army, by manning its kettles at the Sycamore Jewel-Osco on Saturday, December 5th.

Rotary International Director-Elect Robb Kneupfer will be the guest of honor at the annual District 6420 Rotary Foundation Dinner, to be held on Tuesday, November 17th.

 

The dinner will be held at the Deer Valley Country Club in Deer Grove, with social hour at 5 o'clock and dinner served at 5:45 p.m.

 

RIDE Robb will be making his first address to our District since his selection to the Rotary International Board of Directors; he states that he wants to make his successful life a significant life, and has chosen service within Rotary as his vehicle to accomplish that goal.

The DeKalb Rotary Club is inviting all area Rotarians, and anyone interested in Rotary, to a Happy Hour at Fatty's Pub and Grille.

 

It will be on Friday, November 13th from 4:30 to 6:30 in Fatty's back room; all are welcome to attend for an informal gathering of Rotarians.

 

Sycamore Rotarians can start making their holiday travel plans, as the schedule is set for our meetings in December:

 

Wednesday, December 23rd -- No Meeting.  Goodfellows will be setting up at Blumen Gardens for their gift distribution the next day

Due to the upcoming holiday season, publication dates for the electronic version of The Spoke will be changed.

 

There will be no edition of The Spoke on Thursday, November 26th due to the Thanksgiving holiday.

 

There will also be no editions during the week of Christmas and New Year's; the last scheduled edition will be sent out on Thursday, December 17th, and publication will resume on Tuesday, January 5th.
