Guest Speaker:  Rose Treml
Rose Treml says the Sycamore Chamber of Commerce is about more than promoting businesses; it takes the time to help those businesses grow, and seeks to turn the people who work for them into full participants in the community.

A key element is the chamber’s Leadership Academy; businesspersons of any age are encouraged to join, and take a monthly course which helps integrate them with Sycamore.  Participants are given important advice on how to develop their leadership skills, to partner with community leaders and to learn more about the Sycamore area.

As the chamber’s Executive Director, Treml says many people have come and gone in the community without any sense of Sycamore’s history, or the opportunity to see that they have the chance to build a future for themselves and their businesses.  So the Leadership Academy was developed, in an effort to get these persons to cultivate not only their skills…but their interest in the city’s future.

Each Academy course runs a full twelve months, and participants will be asked to do everything from attend City Council and School Board meetings to help out with community projects.  Some are already on the waiting list for the Class of 2018, but more are always welcome.
Sycamore MS Interact donates to Park District's Leaf a Legacy

The Sycamore Middle School Interact Club was at the February 28th Park District Board meeting to present a check for $500 to the District's Leaf a Legacy campaign.

Club members say the group selected this cause because they knew it would benefit Sycamore's youth for many years. They raised the money by selling concessions at Middle School basketball games.

Leaf a Legacy supports the District's long-range plan ACTION 2020. This gift, along with many many others, has helped the campaign reach $918,000 of its $1 million goal.
