We heard from Buntita, our inbound exchange student from Thailand. She talked about her homeland, culture and family. She lives in Bangkok, capital of Thailand, with her parents, brother and grandmother. It is not unusual for entire families of many generations living together under one roof. Thailand is a constitutional monarchy ruled by a king with a population of 69 million people. Some of the more favorite foods are Pad Thai, a stir fry noodle dish and Tom Yum Goong soup with shrimp. The biggest festival of the year is their new year, Rod Nam Dum Hua, celebrated on April 13 and it is not unusual for water “wars” to play a prominent part in the celebration. She also explained how there are three different greetings or “Wai”, one for royalty, one for elders and one for people that are in the same age group. She also shared photos of her recent trip to Springfield, including the Lincoln exhibits. Thank you, Buntita, you did a nice job with your presentation and we enjoyed it.
