Carter Newton from Galena Rotary came to speak to us about Vocational Training Teams (VTT).  He said the simplest way to describe a VTT is to say it is people who use their skills and talents to go out and do good in the world.  Most recently, he and a team of seven women went to Combarbala´, Chile.  Because they are in an area (Region IV) that was affected by the 8.6 earthquake and subsequent Tsunami, there are many ways the team could have provided assistance.  However, the grant money raised by their club and matched by Rotary International was utilized to work with local teachers and children to teach English.  Carter said the team discovered many creative ways to work with the people to teach them and it was all made possible by Rotarians' donations to the Rotary Foundation.   He came away from Combarbala´, with all its natural beauty, with a greater appreciation for the beauty around him every day.  In a very short time he will be interviewing for another team to make a trip to Africa.  We wish Carter well and feel blessed to hear about yet another way Rotarians are making a difference in the world.
