June 21st was designated as membership day for Loves Park Rotary and each Rotarian was asked by the committee co-chairs, Don Skadow and Andrew Reynolds, to invite a prospective member or guest.  While there were few guests, good use of the time was made by Andrew to discuss Rotary in general and membership specifically.  He asked for a few of us to share positive experiences with Rotary.  John Hurley shared how he and Marta valued the time spent hosting an exchange student.  Dave Smith also said how he enjoyed attending an international conference, much the same as what was related by Dr. T last week.  Andrew also asked for positive ways we had impacted the community.  Mary Petro reminded us of how, when Ann Powell was director of the North Suburban Library District, Anita Papich spearheaded an effort to clean up their auditorium and also to convert their old card files.  It was also recalled how one of our members, Sofus Sorensen, had designed and built a sun dial for Sinnissippi Gardens.  Andrew recalled how he had actually considered joining a different Rotary group but, through two different encounters, found our club so warm and welcoming that he decided to join Loves Park.  He felt some of our more mature members had a lot to offer younger generations and thought we could enhance a positive experience for visitors by having several people greet them as well as following up to thank them for visiting (i.e., invite them back again).  Thanks, Andrew for a good meeting with a lot of great ideas and feedback.  Now we just need to do what we do best, right?!
