Mary Petro gave us an interesting talk on the history of Roscoe.  How many people knew the village was almost named Tuttleville or North East?  Instead, residents decided on naming it either after resident, Charlie Roscoe or an English poet named William Roscoe, admired by one of the early settlers.  The first family settled there in 1835 and Roscoe boasts that they were the first school in the country to raise the U.S. flag over it’s building.  Mary showed us many fascinating pictures and shared other interesting historical facts.  There is much more historical information available in books, etc. at either library in Roscoe or Loves Park.  Thanks for sharing Mary.
