(Our Christmas Carolers at Franciscan Place) Membership Newsletter January 2023
Happy 2023! We are grateful for each of our members and look forward to both old and new Service Above Self opportunities and many new members in the new year. "IMAGINE ROTARY" and the difference we can make together in the lives of the world, our community and in each other. Welcome to a bright new year and the hope that each new beginning brings!
CURRENT SERVICE ABOVE SELF OPPORTUNITIES:
OPPORTUNITY #1:
The 69th Waukesha Rotary Club Pancake Breakfast will be held Saturday February 4, 2023 at the Waukesha Expo Center.
Sell or purchase your tickets
Find sponsorship (or become a sponsor yourself)
Sign up to work a shift or two. We can't do it without you!!!
OPPORTUNITY #2:
Meal Train - We will be providing dinners to the Waukesha Overflow Shelter on January 26 and February 16. You will have a chance to sign up at Monday's meeting to provide a part of the meal (menu will be provided).
OPPORTUNITY #3:
Zoom Assistant for Our Monday Meetings: we need someone to show up 15-20 minutes early, set up the machine (this should be drop-dead simple), start the zoom meeting, make the speaker co-host if they’ve got presentation material, resolve issues with zoom during the meeting, and take it down afterwards. Pete Bosch is working on simplifying our current equipment/process and will provide excellent training. We definitely need at least one person for this but would love to train two or three so that you can alternate weeks.
OPPORTUNITY #4:
ERAs still has multiple clients who are seniors or disabled adults who need snow shoveling assistance in the City of Waukesha. They are city lots with a driveway and sidewalk. Many of the clients do drive, but are not capable of shoveling snow.
The Community Service Committee is looking for several Rotarians who would work together as a team to serve a client or clients. ERAs screens the clients to make sure they don't have other resources to provide help, short of paying for it. Many need to get out for doctor appointments or shopping, and help with shoveling helps them to be able to stay in their homes safely.
OPPORTUNITIES COMING UP:
Creativing Fining
Adopt a Highway
District Grant Project
Bluesfest
Much more information will be coming out on these projects shortly. Please watch your weekly emails.
BECAUSE OF YOU:
The Waukesha Rotary Club Charitable Fund met on Thursday evening and approved a $1,000 donation to the District 6270 and District 6220 Ukraine project, which is seeking a goal of $75,000 to provide approximately 300 generators
to some of the hardest hit areas of Ukraine. We thank Pete Bosch for bringing this opportunity to our club. Participating in our 3 major fundraisers (Pancake Festival, BluesFest, Creative Fining) makes donations such as this possible. Thanks for your participation!
POLIO PLUS RAFFLES:
Monthly Raffles for Polio Plus (2nd Monday of the Month):
Goal for 2022-23: $1,500
Total to date: $955.85
Still to go: $544.20 ($90.70/month)
Our next raffle will be this Monday, January 9th. Thank you to Paul Senger for supplying our raffle items. We are very appreciative of our members who have so generously supplied these items for us. As a reminder, we can only take cash for the tickets, which are $1 ea. or 6 for $5.
Today, polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan. But it’s crucial to continue working to keep other countries polio-free. If all eradication efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyze as many as 200,000 children each year. Thank you for supporting Rotary International's #1 Goal: End Polio Now.
3RD QUARTER INVOICES:
Your 3rd quarter invoice should arrive in your email inbox next week. Your prompt attention to these will be greatly appreciated. You can pay by check or credit card (fees apply). I will send the link in an email next week, but you can also find it in the very bottom right hand corner of our website. See Colleen if you have questions.
