Announcements and Meeting Proceedings:

Guests - Guests today included Kristy Trimmer who was a guest of Sandra Curnow; our speaker Sharron Middler, who brought some of her artwork which she has donated for our upcoming silent auction and our exchange student Dinal Mehta.

Birthdays – James Hewitt and Grant Klatik.

President Dave reminded the members of the District Conference in Yakima in May and the International Conference in Australia in June. He also asked them to fill in the Fireside information sheets available at their tables and to think of some quality live auction items for our Lobster Feast auction.

President Dave introduced our guest speaker Sharron Middler, a certified consulting hypnotist.  Sharron shared with us that hypnosis is extremely relaxing and rejuvenating.  A half hour in hypnosis is equivalent to several hours of natural sleep and brings with it a sense of well being, mental relaxation and more energy.  It is a natural de-stressor.  Hypnosis is a state of mind and can be referred to as an altered state of consciousness in which the conscious phase of mind is placed aside and the subconscious mind emerges. It allows you to very easily quit smoking, lose weight, ace your exams, speak in public, overcome fears and more.  The better a person’s intelligence and will power, the easier it is to learn to go into a trance. It is a consent state whereby you cannot be hypnotized if you do not wish.  Hypnotists do not have the ability to make anyone do anything that goes against their values while in hypnosis. It was a very interesting presentation which resulted in many questions from the audience.

President Dave thanked Sharron with a Rotary clock.

Gusto Award was presented to Ralph Oslund for his many years as a dedicated Rotarian and as our meeting photographer.  Thanks Ralph from the publisher of this Rotapen for your regular attendance and commitment to taking photos at our meetings.

Sheriff Natalie Ferebee fined many Rotarians today including John Vassilaki for having his name in the news and on TV; Trev Grey-Dreaper for interrupting her conversation to shake his hand; Jon Milligan for wearing his name tag upside down; Gerry Karr for answering his ringing phone; and Jeff Smith who will be fined indefinitely until he has paid in full his yet to be written birthday cheque.

Special Happy Moments – Call Meiklejohn will be soon be on holidays for a few weeks; and Milton Orris who recently judged at an Okanagan student speaking contest and was amazed at the quality of the speeches including those from two students with autism and cerebral palsy.

Draw - The winning ticket was held by Sandra Curnow for the pot of $161 but she did not pull the joker from the deck.

President Dave closed the meeting with a yet another Newfie joke!  We obviously missed our opportunity to have Sharron hypnotize Dave into not telling any more of these jokes!

Quote for Today: “There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.  Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubledAnonymous
