A message from Dave Moertel, president, The Rotary Club of Rochester
As the newly inducted president of our esteemed Rotary Club, it is my honor and privilege to welcome each of you to a new year filled with promise, purpose, and service. This year is particularly special as The Rotary Club of Rochester celebrates our 100th anniversary, a testament to the enduring commitment and impact we have made in our community and beyond.
Our journey over the past 100 years has been remarkable. From our humble beginnings, we have grown into a vibrant community of dedicated individuals united by the common goal of "Service Above Self." This milestone is a reflection of the hard work, passion, and unwavering dedication of every member, past and present.
Thanks to the Owatonna Rotary Club, the three Rochester Rotary Clubs, and individuals who donated a total of $3,000 for the Statues for Equality project. This project recently received a $3,000 matching grant from our Rotary District 5960 Grants Team. This matching grant will be used to purchase and install the base for a bronze statue recognizing and celebrating the contributions of women in the Rochester community and inspiring future generations to commit themselves to a life of service.
In the Fall of 2023, Rochester Mayor Kim Norton, a member of Greater Rochester Rotary, brought this project to the attention of Rochester Rotarians as a 2024 initiative of the Mayor’s office. Statues for Equality, founded by artists Gillie and Marc Schattner, is a global art movement to balance gender and racial representation in statues to celebrate the achievements of outstanding women.

Stephanie Rudeen is the VP of Resource Development for the United Way of Olmsted County, where she manages fundraising and marketing for the organization. Stephanie grew up in San Jose, California before moving to San Diego for her undergraduate degree at UCSD. Since then, she has lived in Virginia, Oregon, and now Minnesota. She received her master’s in public administration from Virginia Tech (go Hokies!) and has worked in the nonprofit field for almost 15 years. She has now lived in Rochester for going on three years and loves spending time with her one-year-old daughter, Evelyn, and her husband. They enjoy hiking, biking, camping, travel, and of course, a good binge watch.
Jamie Flores Gouyonnet is a MD who graduated last year from medical school in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. He is currently working as a research fellow in the division of Rheumatology at Mayo Clinic. He is looking to apply for medical residency next year.

Thank you for the privilege of serving as your Club President for 2023-2024 year. I greatly appreciated the many resilient, innovative and exceptional ways each of you contributed your ideas, time, wisdom, and talent to create hope within our Club, our community, and beyond! As we transition our Executive Board leadership and shift our RI theme from “Creating hope in the world” to “The magic of Rotary”, may I take this special moment to have each of us pause, take a few deep and easy breaths, smile, and celebrate the mini-milestones that we accomplished together since July 1, 2023:

The points total continues to grow so the TRCR Board decided now is as good a time as any to share the spirit of Rotary and the honor of awarding Paul Harris Fellows to deserving members of our community. Nominees can be a Rotarian but do not have to be as a nominee can be anyone in the community.
