Event Description: Instead of our noon meeting on May 25th, Rotarians, family members and guests are invited to this Biking Fun & Social event. Connect with other Rotarians and guests and enjoy a picnic catered by Pinnacle Catering. Learn about e-bikes and try one out, courtesy of New Spin Bicycle Shop. See the exciting changes at Cascade Lake Park. You're welcome to bring your own bike for a free bike safety check-up. Bring lawn chairs and bike helmets. Plan to attend and socialize while supporting our Rotary club even if you're not a bike rider.

Electric bikes (also called e-bikes or electric assist bikes) are one of the latest options for fun, commuting, and carrying kids or cargo. Experts from New Spin Bicycle Shop will present a brief program about e-bikes, and they’re bring 4 popular e-bikes for anyone to ride. The trails at Cascade Park are paved and flat and have a beautiful view of the lake.
Registration and payment in advance are required, which includes a picnic meal and a chance to win a prize. New Spin Bicycle Shop has generously donated a $200 gift card and everyone who registers to attend (unless you opt out) is eligible to win. Contact information for those entered in the drawing will be shared with New Spin Bicycle Shop. We’ll draw the winner the night of the event, but you don’t need to be present to win.
Anyone who rides any of the e-bikes will need to sign a liability waiver and leave their driver’s license and credit card with a Rotarian at the registration table while they ride the bike. A parent or grandparent of any riders under 18 needs to be present. Bring your own bicycle helmet and a limited number of helmets will be provided by New Spin. Helmets are required for anyone 18 and under.
New Spin will also offer a free bike check-up for anyone who brings their own bike. New Spin will do a quick assessment of safety of the bike and offer recommendations for repairs or maintenance.

As we near the end of the 2022-23 Rotary year (June 30), it is also the time when members are responsible for paying their membership dues.
Our Rotary Club contributes to Rotary International (RI) and Rotary District 5960 a significant portion of our membership dues.
RI and D5960 use our Active Membership list as of June 30th, and invoice us per member. It is therefore essential for the financial health of our Club to have an accurate account of active/current members in good standing.
As a TRCR member this 2022-23 Rotary year, you will receive a dues statement in May to renew your membership. Thank you to those who have made the ongoing commitment to our Club, the District and Rotary worldwide. Unfortunately, several members have not updated their dues payments and time is running short for your membership to be continued on an active basis.

On May 20th, 2023 exactly 50 years from the 1973 dedication of the Nature Center, we will welcome the community to celebrate and recognize this important milestone.
This event, free and open to all, will feature celebratory speakers including Friends of Quarry Hill Board Chair Peggy Edwards, Rochester’s Mayor and former Quarry Hill Board Member Kim Norton, Rochester Public School Board Chair Cathy Nathan, Former director Greg Munson and present director Pamela Meyer.
On this day we will also invite the community to join us for a day of conservation. Working with community partners we will plant 350 trees and shrubs, more than 360 native plants and pull pounds of invasive garlic mustard - activities that will protect the natural landscape and our outdoor classroom for generations to come.
Refreshments and custom seed packets that participants can take home to plant their own backyard prairies will also be a part of the celebration.
Ethics Day 2023: Patricia McCleese and Sara Gilliland have discussed with Heather Willman, Secondary Curriculum and Instruction, Rochester Public Schools a strategy to secure a commitment from one or more schools to participate in Ethics Day in 2023.
Strive: The Rotary Strive Ice Cream Celebration is at John Marshall on May 10th at 6:00 p.m. The speaker is a 2008 John Marshall Strive mentee, Robert Bouapaengphan, who recently joined our club. Each mentee may invitee up to three guests. Perfect attendance $100 bills will be handed out to mentees who qualify. Mentees with the most improved grade points at each of the four high schools will be a scholarship.
RYLA: Four students attended RYLA camp and 2 students from last year returned to camp this year as volunteer jr. counselors. Rochester Rotary Clubs can contact me to schedule when they would like students to report at their club meeting.
Rochester Rotarians were well represented at The Rochester Salvation Army Taste of the Town for a community celebration of food and fellowship in support of The Good Samaritan Health Clinic, which was held at the Hilton Hotel on April 27, 2023.
The event menu theme, "All Around the World" was inspired by different countries and cuisines of the world. Rotarians from all 3 Clubs were broadly represented that night.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Nandan Anavekar talked about ”’How volunteering at GSHC made a life-fulfilling difference.“ He eloquently described how his greatest
journey towards a ‘successful’ contribution in life thus far has been the inward
journey of self-discovery as a student in human philosophy, engagement, and
service, of which The Good Sam has been his greatest teacher. He reminded
each of us that the effort to ‘doing the most good’ while respecting all as part of a
complex and interdependent human family is worthy of investment – restoring
hope, trust, and spirit for all who were gathered in that warm and intimate space.
How can my club collaborate with Toastmasters? You can:
Learn more about Toastmasters or visit a local Toastmasters club
Ask a member of Toastmasters to speak at a club meeting or participate in a service activity
Invite Toastmasters members to visit your club to learn more about Rotary.
Ask if one of your members could attend a Toastmasters meeting to learn more about their organization
Invite a Toastmaster to attend your meeting and offer feedback that could enhance the meeting experience for your members, like improving the way speakers are introduced or how to seamlessly transition the meeting from one agenda topic to the next
Establish a mentorship program between clubs that can be mutually beneficial for your members
Get your club leaders together to discuss things you have in common, like attracting and engaging members, new member orientation, member satisfaction, or finding next year’s leaders, and work together to develop a plan to achieve your goals.
Hold an open house where members of both clubs can socialize and connect.

The U.S. Rotary Club & District Liability Insurance Program provides all U.S. Rotary and Rotaract clubs and districts with general liability and directors & officers / employment practices liability insurance.
Clubs continue to post images and other media (cartoons, songs, etc) online in disregard of copyright laws, resulting in a considerable increase in claims activity under the U.S. Rotary Club & District Liability Insurance Program ("Program"). Over 40% of the Program's open claims now pertain to copyright infringement. Since claims activity determines state-by-state insurance assessment rates, your club could raise the rates for all of the clubs in your state.
Copyright owners hire companies offering software that "trolls" the internet in search of copyright violations involving their images or other media. These companies are commonly referred to as copyright trolls. When a troll finds a violation, they contact the party who mis-used the image or other media and make a demand to settle the violation. Failure to respond to the demand increases the difficulty of resolving the claim.
It is your club's responsibility to comply with copyright laws. Here is what your club can do to prevent receiving a notice of copyright infringement:
Immediately:
Review your club's social media accounts and websites and delete any content using images or other media where you do not have the copyright owner's permission. This includes bulletins, newsletters, and other documents and forms, even if they are 10+ years old.
Contact Risk Management immediately if your club receives a notice of copyright infringement. The Program may provide coverage depending on the way the image or other media was used.
Going Forward:
Instead of lifting images or other media off the internet, use images or other media created by members of your club (first receive their permission) or use the Rotary Brand Center.
Never use images or other media without permission.
Purchase images or other media online.
Consult the United States Copyright Office's website.
