Join us via Zoom this Thursday, August 13, 12 - 1 pm for our Rotary Midday Meeting. Our program will be "The Warren Commission Report: Fact or Fiction" presented by David Yorks. Mr. Yorks has attended several national conferences and has met with and discussed the assassination of President Kennedy with witnesses present in Dealey Plaza as well as discussing the assassination with several doctors who were present at Parkland Hospital, where they attempted to save the President’s life. The presentation will highlight the major discrepancies between the findings of the Warren Commission, which investigated the assassination of President Kennedy in 1964 for ten months versus the conclusions of the United States House of Representatives Select Committee on Assassinations, which investigated the assassination for thirty-one months, ending in 1979.
Congratulations to the John Marshall Ethics Team who has been recognized by the Rotary Clubs of Rochester for developing the best ethics project after participation in the Rotary 2019 Ethics Workshop on November 13, 2019. The Keynote speaker: Christopher Michaelson, Fellow, The Holloran Center, Professor, Ethics and Business Law Department, Opus College of Business, University of St. Thomas, enlightened the students on ethics and took them through a simulation of an ethical dilemma with the help of Rotarian table facilitators. Students heard four Rochester community leaders talk about ethical situations tied to their professions, and students had an opportunity to ask questions about the associated decision-making and outcomes. Students then discussed with their classmates ethical dilemmas they experience at their school. Each team went back to their school to discuss further which ethical dilemma they wanted to work on and/or started working on the one they chose. John Marshall chose “Respect” as their ethical dilemma and produced a video for staff and students, especially for the incoming 9th graders. The video is titled JM Respect and will be shared with Rotarians at a later date.
It is my pleasure to officially open the nomination period for selecting District 5960’s District Governor for the 2023-2024 Rotary year!
I am excited to be leading the District and the District Governor Nominating Committee with this unbelievably important task. Having just come off my year in the District Governor role, I can tell you the journey from applying, interviewing, preparing, and doing the role, has been nothing short of amazing!
As I have shared, I was not looking to apply for District Governor. But others saw something in me and felt I would be good in the role. It is only with this support and encouragement that I made the decision to apply. And that is where you come in! You may know someone that you have seen up close and thought they would make a successful District Governor. I would ask that you give that qualified Rotarian the same encouragement I received. What are those qualifications?
Have been your Club’s president for a full Rotary year
Are a member in good standing
Have an interest in sharing your Rotary passion with fellow Rotarians
Last year was a milestone year for the Rotary Holiday Classic. Thanks to past support over the last 32 years, we reached the one million dollar mark in awarding grants to youth programs in our community!
The Rotary Clubs of Rochester are planning to hold the 2020 Rotary Holiday Classic, presented by Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine, on December 29th and 30th at the Mayo Civic Center. We recognize there is considerable uncertainty due to the pandemic. We will look to both the Minnesota State High School League and our health experts for guidance as the event dates get closer. We’re cautiously optimistic the event will be held as planned. If the event is cancelled due to pandemic concerns, sponsorship funds will either be designated for grants to local youth organizations in the Rochester area, supporting local needs as with past events or returned to you. The Rotary Clubs of Rochester are committed to carrying on the tradition of supporting youth programs.
The Rotary Holiday Classic is only possible because of the generosity of our sponsors and advertisers and their longstanding commitment to supporting youth in our community. Please review the 2020 Sponsor/Advertiser Brochure. If you are able to support this important event, please select your level of participation, and mail or email your response as soon as possible.
We recognize 2020 has been an unusual year for everyone. Jobs have been lost, workers have been furloughed and business has been anything but usual. The Rotary Holiday Classic is an event that brings energy, great basketball competition and thousands of people to Rochester – something we can all look forward to in the coming months. Thank you in advance for taking time to review this information and for your careful consideration.

The club gets an additional 5% on purchases at Kwik Trip, other than gas, inside the store.
If you would like to make a scrip purchase, please email the Rotary office with your request. Apollo is sold in $10 increments, and no change is given in store. Kwik Trip may be purchased in increments of $5 up to $25, increments of $25 up to $100, and then $200, $250, and $500. Credit remains on the card until the full value is spent. Menards cards may be purchased in any denomination between $10 and $2000 with the credit remaining on the card, as well. Apollo and Kwik Trip cards will be delivered within a few days, and Menards cards may take up to two weeks. Scrip cards make especially great gifts for celebrations, including birthdays and graduations!
Separate from the Scrip program but another way to support Rotary is Amazon Smile. If you are already shopping on Amazon, please consider shopping Amazon Smile instead. Same items are available, but if you designate The Rotary Club of Rochester Foundation as your organization of choice, Amazon donates a portion of your purchase to RCRF. Thank you for your support!
