The Rotary Club of Rochester will meet in person this Thursday at Rochester Golf & Country Club, 11:30 am - 1 pm for lunch, social time, a meeting and program. This week's program will be "What is Athletic Training" by Joel Luedke, Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Training Services and Sports Performance at University Wisconsin - LaCrosse. "Athletic training is a unique profession. Grounded in sports, these medical professionals continue to branch out into other settings, utilizing their skill sets to help the 'everyday athlete' and provide benefit to the organizations they work with. This unique profession allows for a different level of interaction with their patients and often sees the professional working from initial injury through a patient's full return to activity. Beyond day-to-day care athletic trainers can be seen involved in strength and conditioning, research and other initiatives to help provide health and safety to athletes of all levels and types."
The club has reserved and must pay for twenty-four lunches. If you plan to attend this week's meeting in person and would like to reserve a lunch, please register online here. Rotarian volunteers are still needed to greet, cashier, and give the Reflection. If you are able to serve, please sign up online here.
If you are unable to join us in person this week, an email with the Zoom invitation and link will be sent on Thursday morning to all TRCR members and friends of Rotary currently on our email address list. We hope you'll make plans to join us!
A friendly reminder that the club continues to collect bottles of water for community members using the Day Center at Salvation Army. Cases may be dropped off in the lobby outside our meeting space at Rochester Golf & Country Club anytime between 11 am and 1:30 pm on Thursday. They will be delivered to Salvation Army following the meeting.
Jennifer Jones, member of the Rotary Club of Windsor-Roseland, Ontario, Canada, will become Rotary International’s president for 2022-23, a groundbreaking selection that will make her the first woman to hold that office in the service organization’s 115-year existence.
Jones, whose confirmation comes at a unique time in history, is inspired by how the organization and its global members continue to adapt, connect and serve their communities in new ways during the coronavirus pandemic. Jones says she wants to harness this moment of change to develop metric-driven goals that challenge us to innovate, educate and communicate opportunities that reflect today’s realities.
“We know that Rotary is a place where leaders and those with the vision and drive to create change can thrive. And such leaders are found from every age, gender, race and background. Diversity, equity and inclusion should begin at the top, and for us to welcome new leaders into our organization and expand our ability to make an impact, we need to build stronger bridges that help everyone see themselves reflected, celebrated and valued here in Rotary,” Jones said.
Our World Polio Day 2020 event will be held virtually this year. To mark the progress we have made toward the eradication of polio, Rotary’s significant involvement, and to encourage giving to PolioPlus, the Rotary clubs of Rochester will be publishing information about polio on Facebook all through the month of October. To kick things off, Mayor Kim Norton has issued a proclamation declaring October 24 World Polio Day in Rochester! Check out the video on the Rotary Clubs of Rochester Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Rotary-Clubs-of-Rochester-160532451430335/). Please like and share!
If you have not already “liked” the Rotary Clubs of Rochester and The Rotary Club of Rochester Facebook pages, please do so now so you won't miss out on important information and fun pictures of Rotarians in action!
We are also encouraging Rotarians to change their Facebook profile picture to the official Rotary International “I want to end polio” frame. You can find this frame by searching for “Rotary I want to end polio” on the frames. Alternatively (or concurrently), you can change your profile picture to a “this close” picture with your thumb and forefinger.
