Last year was a milestone year for the Rotary Holiday Classic. Thanks to past support over the last 32 years, we reached the one million dollar mark in awarding grants to youth programs in our community!
The Rotary Clubs of Rochester are planning to hold the 2020 Rotary Holiday Classic, presented by Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine, on December 29th and 30th at the Mayo Civic Center. We recognize there is considerable uncertainty due to the pandemic. We will look to both the Minnesota State High School League and our health experts for guidance as the event dates get closer. We’re cautiously optimistic the event will be held as planned. If the event is cancelled due to pandemic concerns, sponsorship funds will either be designated for grants to local youth organizations in the Rochester area, supporting local needs as with past events or returned to you. The Rotary Clubs of Rochester are committed to carrying on the tradition of supporting youth programs.

We recognize 2020 has been an unusual year for everyone. Jobs have been lost, workers have been furloughed and business has been anything but usual. The Rotary Holiday Classic is an event that brings energy, great basketball competition and thousands of people to Rochester – something we can all look forward to in the coming months. Bring emerging leaders into your club
New leaders are always emerging. They live in your community. They are eager to contribute. Younger professionals could make great Rotary members, but to bring them into our clubs, we first have to understand them. This is essential for Rotary.
This toolkit will help you rethink membership, from a broad perspective down to a tactical level, that you can adapt to your area. Topics include characteristics of your audience, your club’s culture, ideas for outreach and engagement, and the long-term benefits of becoming a Rotarian.
Understanding younger generations means understanding how changes in society affect them. Technology has given them the opportunity to customize nearly everything in their lives. But possessions don’t sit at the top of their wish list.
Rather, many share a unifying trait: a desire for experience. When young people invest time and money into something, it’s with organizations that do good in the world.
That’s Rotary.
Younger generations are eager. They’re motivated to change their communities and hope to move quickly along their career paths. They want to build a solid network and learn from mentors, from people with clout and experience.
That’s us.
Few organizations span generations and professions and build personal connections the way that Rotary does. We blend tradition with innovation and use trust and respect to close the generation gap.
It’s a compelling story. It’s our story. Let’s tell it.
Mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 16, 12-1 pm, and save the date for our 2020 Rotary Golf Outing. It's a fun, event for Rotarians and friends of Rotary. If you aren't a golfer, join us for lunch, a short meeting, and a program. Lunch and our meeting will take place outside in the Willow Creek Pavilion with a boxed lunch for reduced contact.
If you enjoy golf, even on the rare occasion, register with your own team or as a single to be grouped with other individuals. Carts will be available for pairs or individuals. In an effort to reduce contact, the event will be played this year with tee times rather than a shotgun start.
This event will take place unless another StayHomeMN order goes into effect for that time.
Scrip cards to Apollo Liquor, Kwik Trip, and Menards are still available for purchase to support The Rotary Club of Rochester. Remember, you purchase and spend the cards at face value, and the club receives 5% back from Apollo Liquor and Kwik Trip, and 4% back from Menards. The club gets an additional 5% on purchases at Kwik Trip, other than gas, inside the store.
If you would like to make a scrip purchase, please email the Rotary office with your request. Apollo is sold in $10 increments, and no change is given in store. Kwik Trip may be purchased in increments of $5 up to $25, increments of $25 up to $100, and then $200, $250, and $500. Credit remains on the card until the full value is spent. Menards cards may be purchased in any denomination between $10 and $2000 with the credit remaining on the card, as well. Apollo and Kwik Trip cards will be delivered within a few days, and Menards cards may take up to two weeks. Scrip cards make especially great gifts for celebrations, including birthdays and graduations!
Separate from the Scrip program but another way to support Rotary is Amazon Smile. If you are already shopping on Amazon, please consider shopping Amazon Smile instead.
