Written by Elaine Case, Rochester Rotary RisersThe Rotary Club of Guadalupe has formalized a program called "New Generations Service Exchange" and has partnered with Rotary clubs across the world to provide opportunities for medical students and professionals to advance their learning. Here in Rochester, we are hosting more young people in the medical field due to our proximity to Mayo. Our partnership has changed lives.
In 2021, all three Rochester Rotary clubs partnered with the Rotary Club of Guadalupe in Monterrey, Mexico to provide basic housing for a Rotaract young professional, Edgar Botella-Hernandez who had been offered a Mayo Clinic Internship in Neurosurgery. Edgar is back in Mexico continuing his career path in medicine. Next, we hosted Mariana Gonzalez Trevino, M.D. who graduated from the School of Medicine at Universidad Autonomy de Nuevo León in Mexico. Mariana is completing her second year as a Research Trainee in the Department of Rheumatology with Mayo Clinic in Rochester. Mariana matched with her first choice Vanderbilt Internal Medicine Residency Program in Nashville, TN and will begin her residency in July, 2024. We wish Dr. Gonzalez Trevino the very best as her journey in medicine continues! Last year we welcomed Dr. Jaime Flores-Gouyonett who is training at Mayo Clinic this year in the Department of Rheumatology.
We will be hosting another professional, Dr. Eugenia Ramos-Davila in the field of Ophthalmology this June. Eugenia is a 3rd year Ophthalmology Resident at Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico. She has accepted a clinical rotation with Dr. Lauren Dalvin as a Visiting Resident in the Department of Ophthalmology (Ocular Oncology Service) at Mayo Clinic Rochester from June 15, 2024 to June 29, 2024. We look forward to introducing you to Eugenia when she arrives in June.
