The August 12th meeting of The Rotary Club of Rochester will be held at the Rochester Golf and Country Club. Lunch will be available for $20 beginning at 11:30 a.m. The meeting and program will begin at noon. The meeting will also be available to members via Zoom. If you plan to join us for lunch, you are asked to register / sign-up, in advance, for lunch (preferably no later than Monday, August 9) so we know how many lunches to order. The program, Global COVID-19 and Vaccination Update, will be presented by Dr. Abinash Virk, a Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. Dr. Abinash Virk is a Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science and a Consultant in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Rochester, Minnesota since 1997. Currently, she is the Co-Chair of the Covid-19 vaccine allocation and distribution workgroup at Mayo Clinic. She is the Chair of the Mayo Clinic Enterprise Antibiotic Stewardship Program and the outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy program. Previously, she served as the Acting Chair of the Division from 2016-2017 and was the Vice Chair and Practice Chair from 2010 - 2016. She established the Mayo Clinic’s Travel and Tropical Medicine Clinic in 1999 and directed it for over 17 years. She has been keenly involved in Education in the ID Division. She was the Education Chair and the ID fellowship Program Director from 2002-2010. Her passion in ID includes Antimicrobial stewardship, Orthopedic Infectious Diseases and Travel and Tropical Medicine.
Dr. Virk received her medical degree from Assam Medical College, India, graduating in the top 5 in her class. She completed Internal Medicine Residency and Chief Residency at Prince George’s Medical Center in Maryland followed by Infectious Diseases fellowship at Mayo Clinic.
