Involvement with the Outland Trophy award is one of our Club’s great traditions over the last 21 years.
This year, at our annual Outland Trophy luncheon we were fortunate to meet Ed Oliver of the University of Houston. Ed is an outstanding young man from whom we can expect to see many great things in the future.
It was also an honor to meet Bobby Bowden, longtime head coach at Florida State, a true college football legend. Bobby was on hand to receive the Tom Osborne Legacy Award, which is sponsored by our club.
One of my favorite parts of our Outland Trophy tradition is the Q&A session, and this year was one of the best. Ed answered many questions, and told us more about his horse riding, and Bobby regaled us with many great stories from his coaching days.
Thanks to Rotarian Joe Mancuso and his brother Bob Mancuso for continuing to lead our club’s involvement involvement in the Outland Trophy tradition.
I hope your holiday break was a great one. My wife, Rotarian Gretchen Harvey, and I spent 8 lovely days on the Riviera Maya in Mexico. But shortly after lunch on Wednesday I was suddenly taken down with a stomach bug and had to miss the Outland dinner Wednesday night. Was it Montezuma’s revenge or the Omaha flu? Who knows, but a big thank you to Tim Cavanaugh who stood in for me on short notice and introduced Dr. Tom Osborne at the award ceremony Wednesday night.
