President's Pen
Our 9/11 Tribute of Flags in Memorial Park is underway. Special thanks to Dan Esch, Lindy Hoyer, Gary Bren and a score of volunteers for carrying on this tradition as we memorialize the lives lost on September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993 (World Trade Center bombing). We are reminded that freedom is not free. When you see the flags in the late summer breeze, know that Rotary remembers.

Also, Gary Bren is taking some excellent steps to understand how to pivot our Honor Roll project toward the future. Gary and our Honor Roll committee will conduct a focus group with educators in September to gain some clarity. If you have an abiding interest in Honor Roll and would like to be part of the discussion, please reach out to Gary.

The Sullivans bumped into the Mocks at the new sea lion exhibit at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo this past Thursday morning. Notably, John was sporting a Rotary cap. We were all incredibly impressed with the new world-class exhibit - a tribute to Omaha philanthropy and a tremendous team at the zoo. It’s a great place to spend some time as we close out summer 2020.

See you on September 9 as we welcome our District Governor Roxy Orr to Downtown Rotary. Roxy is focusing on the immense opportunity Rotary has to support our community.

Have a restorative Labor Day Holiday weekend!

Good News
From Camille  Metoyer Moten:
Good news from my house.  My husband underwent knee replacement surgery last Tuesday and is recovering.  Having gone through two knee replacements myself I am the perfect nurse...but not really because I’m an awful cook so we will both be skeletons in a month.

911 Tribute of Flags

As one of our Club Service Projects, our club both helps plant the flags and remove the flags that each year has commemorated the people who perished in the 9/11 bombings.

We can use your help at Memorial Park on Friday, September 4th from 4:30- 7:00pm to SET UP FLAGS.   Family and friends are welcome.

If you are a new member, this counts as a Community Service Project. It is also worth attendance credit.

If you have a Rotary shirt please wear it.

Each shift could use around 20 volunteers. Volunteers will report at the top of the hill on Underwood (the hill that faces Dodge Street). Volunteers should plan to bring a mask and wear them when not socially distanced from others. Bring their own hand sanitizers, and if possible bring screwdrivers, drills and hammers in case the ground is hard.

Sunday, September 13 we will need help to take them down from 1:00 - 2:30pm.
