One of the themes of Blueprint Nebraska -the economic development plan which unites our state- is the creation of PLACE, a place, for example Omaha, where people want to live, work and play. At the forefront of that effort for decades has been the Mancuso family of Omaha, now involved for three generations in the development of Omaha sports and entertainment activities. And, of course, we’re proud to have Joe Mancuso as a member of Downtown Rotary representing the clan as his brothers and father have previously.
Joe and family along with the Omaha Sports Commission and other leaders developed the Outland Trophy decades ago (with some support from Downtown Rotary). See your Whirl below for additional information regarding a reception event for the Outland semi-finalists, to be held Monday, December 7, 2020. For more information or to assist, please contact Joe Mancuso at (402) 850-6804. Thank you to Lindy Hoyer and our Service Above Self team for supporting the 2020-2021 Outland Trophy Award.
If you’re looking to get in to the holiday spirit, I can think of no finer way to do it than to serve through one of our service opportunities with the Salvation Army or City of Omaha Recycling Program in the coming month. Further details in the Whirl below.
And coming up…what an opportunity to expand and engage your professional sphere of influence and improve Rotary by simply inviting a guest to join us on December 9 (AkSarBen Foundation) and/or December 16 (President Ted Carter, University of Nebraska). We have two “can’t miss” meetings just ahead.
Meanwhile, enjoy the fine December weather (while it lasts)!
Lindy Hoyer has been in touch with the Salvation Army in regards to their winter watch food distribution program. She has signed our club up to serve on 4 nights beginning in December through February. Each shift will require up to 3 club members to sign up, two will be serving food and one will be the jump (person who organizes crowd outside and hands out clothing). At this time no drivers are needed. The shifts start at 5:45 p.m. at the SA Western Divisional Headquarters, 10755 Burt Street. If new to volunteering for SA, need to arrive a bit early to fill out paperwork. The shifts each night are from 5:45-8 p.m. Volunteers must bring and wear a mask, wear warm clothes.
OCP legend Camille Metoyer Moten makes her highly-anticipated return to the stage for an intimate holiday affair. Christmas in My Heart is all the wonder and magic of the season in concert. Cozy up in our Howard Drew Theatre and let Camille’s soaring voice warm your heart with beloved holiday classics, contemporary Christmas melodies and everything in between!
