Your board of directors will convene for the final time this year on June 11, 2021. You will find the names of board members elsewhere in the Whirl each week.
For the uninitiated, here’s a short primer on your club governance.
Your executive committee includes the following Rotarians, all board members “ex officio” – as a result of their elected position - with the exception of the treasurer and secretary who are appointed by the president as part of the executive team:
Executive Committee:
President
President-Elect (ex officio)
President-Elect Designate (ex officio)
Immediate Past-President (ex-officio)
Treasurer (ex officio)
Secretary (ex officio)
Your board is comprised of the six (6) members above and an additional twelve (12) elected board members, currently serving in cohorts of four for a three-year period each. Thus, on matters requiring board approval (such as new membership), a quorum of ten (10) is required. Primarily, however, the president has broad discretion in most matters. And this past year we have utilized the executive team construct for collaborative decision-making. We will install a new president and three new board members on June 30, 2021, at our changing of the guard ceremony.
Your board is governed by the by-laws of the club which were reviewed by a sub-committee of the board (chaired by current president-elect designate Sean Connolly, Esq.) during PP Camille Metoyer-Moten’s term. And core committee chairs, leading our Service Above Self, Programs, Digital Experience, Membership, and International teams, are the heart and soul of the club with numerous other sub-committee chairs rounding out the full leadership team.
Providentially, the executive committee, and the board and core committee chairs, are served by our club executive director who also attends board meetings and has broad familiarity with all things Rotary. The executive is the only staff member of the club and her duties are governed by a contract with the club.
If you are interested in serving in a board capacity, let me hear from you (after June 30 please). The immediate past president chairs our nominating committee ex officio and recruits additional past presidents for the nominating committee. That work will result in a slate of nominations which will be submitted for board approval at a board meeting in Q4 2021.
Have a great “summer” weekend. See you on Wednesday at Field Club!

Last week at Rotary was special! We celebrated the birthdays of Steve V, Jere, Lloyd G, Charlie, Anna, Dawn, Jim S, Carl M, Okley, Jorge, Yujin, Heather, Chris, Cesar, Roger, and Rob. If you are a June birthday celebrant and you missed your own Rotary birthday party last week, you need to contact Secretary Nash to present your case on why you missed your own party. Long time Rotarians, like before you were born they were already Rotarians, Past President Big Al Goldstein, and Tom Gouttierre, finally made their way back to Field Club for their first in-person meeting after the pandemic hit us. That speaks volumes of how important Rotary is to them. One of them personally knows Paul Harris! Past President Big Al immediately went to work by retiring the red badge of Jeremy Bermel and gave him his permanent badge. President John Sullivan gave the floor to Tom Gouttierre and Tom wasted no time by telling a story about his travails during the pandemic.

Tom Goutierre wowed the Rotarians with his 15 seconds time on the agenda
Thank you to John Mock who served as Greeter, while John Marburger was the Navigator. Dawn Gonzales and Jesse Moore served in Registration. Every week we need Rotarians to serve. Volunteer now, Click Here.
