President's Pen
On July 8th, Jennifer Knecht with Immanuel Communities identified senior loneliness as a feeling that often occurs when a person is socially isolated, including the following signs and symptoms:
  • Lack of interest and withdrawal from activities
  • Neglecting appearance or personal hygiene
  • Changes in day-to-day routines
  • Poor nutrition or a change in eating habits
  • Sleeping later in the mornings
I thought the exchange of ideas and resources among our speaker and Rotarians, especially Sandy Lemke and Julie Sebastian, was a great example of how Rotary works for the greater good. Thanks to Julie, you may find further research on this topic on the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine by searching for “NASEM social isolation” which will reward you with a 2020 publication of “Social Isolation and Loneliness in Older Adults: Opportunities for the Health Care System.”

I always learn a lot at Rotary. I hope you do, too.

Our board met this morning, Friday, July 10th. We are discussing a return to Field Club post Labor Day and we will revisit the topic at our August 14th board meeting. Meanwhile, Sean Olson provided a detailed report from our Digital Experience Committee – you can expect a few new wrinkles on our zoom meetings and a probable hybrid of in person meetings with a digital experience when we do return to Field Club. Sean is also looking for a couple more volunteers for his committee. Reach him at solson@sonburst.com. I really appreciate that a past president remains so involved in our club! And we have many other past presidents doing the same.

See you at Rotary via Zoom on July 15th!

From Camille Metoyer Moten
Thursday the 9th is Michaels and my 44th wedding anniversary.  44 years married when we are both only 47 years old.  It’s a miracle!
