PROGRAM: Southwest Precinct

The Southwest Precinct (SW), commanded by Captain John Sokolik, incorporates a community policing approach to address the causes of and reduce the fear of crime. Specifically, the SW, in partnership with business owners and neighborhood associations, takes an active role in developing strategies to improve the quality of life for citizens within its boundaries. As a part of this approach, Captain Sokolik meets with members of the community through the SW Precinct Advisory Council (PAC). The SW PAC includes residents, neighborhood associations, citizens' patrols, and business owners. The SW PAC fosters positive community relations by providing an opportunity for citizens to communicate directly with SW command in order to relay public safety concerns.
President's Pen
A few key dates to keep in mind as we prepare for a new year of Rotary!

June 23rd – A brief president’s report is “on deck,” and we welcome Cesar Garcia for an update on our South Omaha Initiative.
June 30th – It’s the Changing of the Guard! We’ll recognize leaders from the past year and inaugurate President-Elect Aileen Warren and her team. Secretary Nash Mahupete will deliver the keynote. Expect a few special guests including numerous past district governors (PDGs) and more.
July 8th – Paul Harris Night at Jazz on the Green. See details below.
July 23rd and 24th  – District 5650 Conference in Omaha, including family events at Werner Park and Henry Doorly Zoo. See details in our club calendar under Upcoming Events.
Date TBD – A Downtown Rotary Social Event, originated by Past-President Camille Metoyer-Moten and her Secretary Deb Skinner. Details to-be-announced soon!

Finally, today, June 18, 2021, is a federal holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. The name Juneteenth stems from June 19, 1865, when Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger in Galveston, Texas, issued General Order No. 3 which announced that in accordance with the Emancipation Proclamation, “all slaves are free.” Months later, the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified, abolishing slavery in the final four border states that had not been subjected to President Abraham Lincoln’s order. As a humanitarian organization dedicated to Service Above Self and peace efforts throughout the world, Rotary International and The Rotary Club of Omaha honor this day and this moment.

See you on Wednesday at Field Club as we welcome Capt. Sokolik with the Omaha Police Department!
