President's Pen
In addition to our current and ongoing Service Above Self initiatives, here are a few additional key activities for your consideration:
  • Operation Hippocrates – JUST ANNOUNCED ! - Brad Burkland, Leroy Swedlund and team are mounting a five-day April 2021 medical service trip to Belize with Dr. Jeff Delaney, Children’s Hospital and Medical Center. Your service fund contributions for this year will assist with the clinic focusing on congenital heart disease (app. $6,000 for four persons including a doctor, nurse, sonographer and Leroy representing Rotary and handling logistics). I am sure that Leroy would welcome any additional contributions to the Service Fund for the trip to Belize next month! Leroy has noted that due to lack of this mission over the past year, two children died while on the wait list. So the team has a strong sense of urgency, while taking precautions during the pandemic. Thank you for your consideration.
  • Kids Against Hunger – Mark your calendar for May 8th! Lori Bechtold is leading this project for us, in association with West and Suburban Rotaries, as we produce 30,000-plus meals in one morning of assembly. The effort will take 130 volunteers among the three clubs. Please contact Lori to get involved.
  • Honor Roll – Gary Bren is putting the finishing touches on this event for May 12, 2021. We are looking for a strong turnout in the digital environment to demonstrate Rotary solidarity with our local eighth grade Honor Roll students. Please plan to join us.

See you on Wednesday as we hear from Rotarian Tim Burke, who only yesterday announced that he will be retiring as CEO from OPPD later this year.

Volunteer from Home
Send Happy Notes to residents at the Salvation Army’s Durham Booth Manor. This is a project that can be done at any time.
If we could get a few club members signed up to send them, Lindy Hoyer will get a committee member to coordinate the frequency of the notes.
Just cheery notes to brighten someone’s day.
