There was a Milestone this week. John Mock filled in for Spencer as secretary and when I handed off the microphone he set a new level of respectability (besides potentially upsetting the egg coalition) and I actually got the microphone back. Well done and Thank you John.
We had a moment of silence for Dr Joe Holthaus a previous member of our club that recently passed away. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
We got an update from Dan Esch on our current cooperative project in our Rotary district working on human trafficking. Dan has collected over $475 in cash donations from member and lots of donated items as well, that will be used for a portion of this project at the Rotary district conference in Lincoln this weekend. If you want to donate money for this project please get the money to Leigh and designate it for the Trafficking project. Nice work everyone.
Another home run program set up by Cella, I wish I had brought a guest. Cathy Thaden President and CEO of "From Now On" & CRi spoke about the exciting things going on with her company in the area of fan(sports fans not ceiling fans) engagement. She explained how their company had set up an innovation lab to develop ideas and they have developed an app that is being used by universities to engage their fan base and improve the fan experience before, during, and after events. The University of Nebraska Omaha was the first user over 3 years ago and the product continues to improve and they have many D1 universities on board and UNL is just ready to go live. She showed some of the useful and helpful information available at your fingertips at any time. WOW! Very interesting, and amazing technology and foresight. Great program and it would have been a great one to invite a guest to come and see the awesome stuff going on at Rotary. I challenged all members to invite a guest at least 2 times during this year, so let's make it happen.
Good news included our very own Anna Swedlund being named as lead counsel at UNMC. Congrats and great job Anna! Very proud smiles on your parents faces (LeRoy and Bobbi) in the crowd this week.
Don't forget the upcoming social at Universal Information Services on July 31st from 4-6pm, and our Club social that Lisa has set up at the McCollisters house on Aug 9th at 6pm around the pool - not in the pool(we don't want to encourage John Mock to show up in a speedo). Please try to attend one or both of these events.
Join your fellow Rotarians for a little fun around the pool at the McCollister's. Ollie the Trolley will sponsor appetizers and Steve and Pat will provide a variety of beverages!
Please join us for a district-wide networking night on Monday, August 6 as the Omaha Storm Chasers take on the Salt Lake Bees at beautiful Werner Park. Tickets for this event are only $8 per person with a portion of the ticket being donated to the Magdalene House, which focuses on helping those escaping sex trafficking.
This is a family centered event supported by District 5650. What a better way to celebrate 5650 than during the Storm Chasers 50th season in franchise history. Rotarians, their families and friends are welcome to enjoy the evening.
When: Monday, August 6 at 7:05 pm (Gates open at 6 pm)
Where: Werner Park (12356 Ballpark Way, Papillion, NE 68046)
Cost: $8.00 per ticket (portion of ticket going to Magdalene House)
