President's Pen

Rotarians,

As you may recall, inclusivity is the theme of my Presidency. Whether it be through our speakers, our projects, or our membership, I am glad to see how we are embedding this theme into what we do and who we are.  This week’s speaker did an amazing job of sharing what is happening with the City of Omaha as it relates to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Keith Station, Deputy Chief of Staff - Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for the City of Omaha, and who just celebrated one year in his role,  provided a comprehensive look at how the Mayor’s administration has embraced DE&I. This link will take you to Keith's slides, click here.

One of the items Rotarians should note from the presentation is the city would like to have a broad base of representation on the various city boards and commissions. The link below will take you to information on what opportunities are available and the process for consideration. Your involvement by volunteering to serve is another way to make a difference in the Omaha community!

We also still need members to join our inclusivity committee. Please reach out to Kathy Estes if you are interested in helping us in this area.

Finally, don’t forget I still would appreciate it if you could donate $25.00 to the Rotary Foundation Fund (if you haven’t already). What a wonderful opportunity for us to show our commitment to Rotary! It is very easy to give. Just click on this link: https://www.rotary.org/en/donate

See you next Wednesday!

Reimagining Honor Roll Survey
The survey will close on 9/20/21 at 5:00 PM. We want to hear from you, click here to complete a quick survey. In 2022, the Omaha Downtown Rotary’s 8th Grade Honor Roll Program will celebrate its 95th year. It is our signature program and has been very successful. Even last year with the COVID-19 situation, we were able to pivot and actually hold the program virtually. Despite our club continuing to sponsor the program, we are at a crossroads. Financially, we have club members who are willing to donate to keep the program going but the issue we currently have and continue to have is not being able to engage members to either chair the program or serve on the committee to make the program a reality. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey, click here, and provide us your thoughts on the future of the 8th Grade Honor Roll Program.
9/11 Tribute of Flags
Thank you to all those who volunteered for the Tribute of Flags led by Project Chair Dan Esch. Here are some photos from the takedown of flags for storage on Sept. 19th with President Aileen Warren, Dan Esch, Bill Harvey, Gretchen Harvey, Jim Stewart, Adam Hoebelheinrich, Cliff McEvoy, family, friends, Boy Scouts, and scout leaders.

Shoes for Haiti
Past President Brad Burklund shared his recent mission in Haiti. Inspired by Brad's report and the need for shoes for the children in Haiti, Past President John Sullivan, led Rotarians in raising $1,200 in 38 seconds to purchase shoes for the children in Haiti. You still have the opportunity to participate in this project.  Details are in Service Above Self Chair Lindy Hoyer's August 30 email or click on Read More.
