Happy Honor Roll Day Everyone,

It was a Great day for our Rotary Club Last Week!  This was the 92nd annual Downtown Rotary Honor Roll Luncheon and it was Awesome!  If you weren't able to join us you really missed out!  These youth are amazing and really give a bright feel for this future generation.

As you know it takes many hands to handle a big project and I want to make a Big shout out thank you to Tim Cavanaugh for heading up the Honor Roll Committee this year, Sean Connolly for heading up our Scholarship Committee, Emily Tonniges for being our Prize Guru.   I know each of you had help from the committees, and from our membership at large, and so many others, so thank you to all involved.

Thank you to Gretchen Bren for all her help behind the scenes to coordinate several areas of the awards.  Thank you to John Ewing for doing our invocation, and Okley Gibbs and Paul Cohen for the tribute to the Pledge, and to everyone that helped set-up, greet, guide, and encourage the recipients.  Thank you to Gary Bren for a very inspiring speech and call to action to get the whole room engaged in making a difference in our world.  Thank you to Planit Omaha for great help in planning and hosting the event and to John Knicely for being our emcee, and to Jim and the whole crew at the BBB for your participation in the event.  Thank you to Leigh for all her ongoing help, and for helping to coordinate and juggle all the pieces.

I am sure I am forgetting someone, but I just want to say again, THANK YOU to everyone that made this a proud day for our rotary club!

This is what getting out there and making a difference in our world is all about.

Jay Lund with GreenSlate Development will talk about the history and resurrection of the Blackstone Hotel as it undergoes a complete renovation.  He will also describe the re-development of the Blackstone District.

The Blackstone District has seen much revitalization in recent years, both inside and out. This classic Omaha location caters to individuals from all walks of life but is especially appealing to those who have a great appreciation for the history and integrity of one of the city's oldest and coolest neighborhoods. The Blackstone District now showcases contemporary dining, nightlife, shopping and living experiences as diverse as the area itself.

Rock the Block

Sat, May 18, 2019 - 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM - location in Omaha will be announced closer to the date.

This event is all about bringing communities together and promoting healthy neighborhoods. Months before the event, our staff meets and surveys the existing neighbors in the areas we serve. With your help, we will assist these folks with a variety of tasks, which usually include light repair, clean-up, sanding, painting, staining, and landscaping. At the end of the day, the neighborhood shines a little brighter and new relationships are made. New in 2019 – Rock the block days will end with a small block celebration! Partners are needed to provide food, entertainment, and cleanup assistance. This event allows us to serve more families outside of our core programs. It also allows us greater flexibility with group size and volunteer ages.

Tools and supplies are supplied by Habitat. Volunteers just need to wear closed toed shoes or boots

We will need a total of 10 volunteers with each volunteer needing to sign up with the below link at least 2 weeks prior to May 18th.
