College World Series Committee

Leroy Swedlund and Jim Stewart (Committee Chair and Co-Chair) are the club’s primary contacts with College World Series, Inc.

Sixty-four NCAA teams compete in the National Championship Tournament.  Our club hosts one of eight Super-Regional champions who will come to Omaha to play in the College World Series.  We will know which region our team will come out of prior to the start of the tournament, but will not know who our actual team is until the weekend prior to the CWS.

The Series will begin this year on Saturday, June 17.

Last year Rotary hosted the TCU Horned Frogs. Other schools we have hosted include Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Cal State Fullerton, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oregon State, Rice, Texas, Vanderbilt and UCLA.  We were fortunate to host the National Champion Team for three consecutive years, 2000 (LSU), 2001 (Miami) & 2002 (Texas).  We also hosted the 2012 National Champion, Arizona.

The Primary Role of the CWS Committee Member is to Sell General Admission Ticket Books.

  • Rotary sold 98 General Admission ticket books in 2016 versus a goal of 200.  (This was a 30% increase over 2015).
    • We would like to improve on this number in 2017.
  • 2017 price is $90 per book.  Each book contains 10 general admission tickets each with a face value of $15.00, good for any game
    • The book price represents a substantial discount of $60
  • There are 5,500 General Admission seats which, especially at TD Ameritrade Omaha Park, is a great place to watch a game!
  • It is not uncommon for ticket books to be sold and then donated to various youth groups (i.e. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Boys Town, etc.)
    • This is a good reason for folks to purchase a book or two!
  • General Admission tickets may upgrade to Reserved tickets by paying the difference in face value price on game day.
  • Ticket Sales Report Meetings are scheduled:
    • Tuesday May 16 at CWS Headquarters from 4:00 to 6:00
      • 808 North 13th Street
    • Monday, June 5 at CWS Headquarters from 4:00 to 6:00
      • 808 North 13th Street
    • Tuesday, June 13 at Morrison Stadium from 4:45 to 6:00
      • Creighton University
    • Thursday, July 6 at DJ’s Dugout
      • 777 North 114th Street
