Rotary Minute
Since the launch of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), the global incidence of polio cases has decreased by 99 percent. In March 2014 India, once deemed the most difficult place to end polio, was declared polio-free, making the entire Southeast Region polio-free. Now that 99 percent of the world’s population lives in regions certified polio-free, the goal of eradication is closer than ever.

A memorial to Eddie Melin

Each week, our guest speaker signs the above bookplate

on books donated in their honor to the

Five things you may not know about . . .

Shelly J Kearns

Branch Manager, AVP
Happy State Bank
Brand New Rotarian as of August 2016
1) My favorite volunteer experience; I am the chair of Center City's "High Noon on the Square" every June and July.  I love the people, the community and the event.
2) The number 1 item on my bucket list and something I have not done yet is go on a cruise. I love the ocean.
3) Something people don't know about me; my husband and I formed an animal rescue organization called KARTS (Kearns Animal Rescue Transportation Services) a 501(c)3 non-profit.  We have rescued 1662 cats and dogs from the municipal shelter that were at risk of being euthanized.
4) My special interest item is;  I love all things Disney.  I've been to Disneyland 20+ times and Disneyworld twice.
5) The one word that best describes me is Loyalty.
Another Way to Win the Foundation Drawing

The game has changed.
Our President has added a new twist to the game.  The Jokers have been put back into the deck and if you draw a Joker you win $50.  This is more than just a money pot.  Each week the drawing gives you a change to win jerky, pizza, tickets to main events even a bobblehead....WOW

Twenty-four new Paul Harris Fellows were honored and "pinned" at our November 5, 2015 meeting.
Congratulations everyone!
Snak Pak
Rotarians Volunteer for Kids
Our Raise the bar fundraiser netted $18,000 which was presented to Caprock High School, September 17th, to begin their Snack Shak program.
Snack Pak 4 kids received a $20,000 challenge grant from a foundation in Austin Texas. Caprock students needed to raise the matching $20,000. This timely fundraiser made it all come together for these students.  Snack Pak 4  kids plans to have Snack Shaks available in all AISD middle and high schools by the 2015 school year.
The story continues.  District 5730 Grant funds where distributed and the share allocated to the Rotary Club of Amarillo allowed us to support the launch of the Snack Shak program at Fannin Middle School.  A check for $5000.00 was presented on January 15th to the school principal Nathan Culwell.
