" Building a strong Foundation and finishing even stronger".
And here we are at the end of Q1 of the Rotary year 2024/2025. What strides we have made to lay a sound foundation to end and hand over strong.
In the spirit of good Governance, the month began with the board holding its 3rd board meeting. Attendance has been good and the members are commended for attending and we look forward to an even more robust 4th board meeting in October.
We as a club are committed to bringing our Rotaractors on this magical journey with us and what better way to do it but to have a fellowship on 4th September dedicated to The Rotary Africa Summit. The guest speaker was none other than Rotaract Africa President Allan Ntambi who is a member and Past President of our own Rotaract Club of Kampala Central.
The club so far has been able to raise $530 for 15 members which is a contribution towards Rotaractor early bird registration fee of 80$. To date the club has raised to pay for 20/25 Rotaractors for RYLA. We stand committed to strengthening our Rotaract Clubs.
On 11th September we had an Update on Global Grant 2240454 to buy equipment for 75 hard to access Health Centers in 7 Districts. This update was done by Dr Fred Kapata the Grant Officer and what a discussion we had.
The club members got a good appreciation of what DG9213 Anne Nkutu has been saying about clubs spending less energy on fundraising for some millions versus spending energy on application for 50k USD and above. This was indeed an eye opener. There was great appreciation for the fact that the 75 health centers received an assortment of items that included Penguin suckers, Ambu bags, Baby cot plastic, Infant incubator, Digital thermometer, Hand held oximeter, Kmc beds, Oxygen splinters, Infusion pumps, syringe pumps, Vein finders, Filling cabinets, Phototherapy machines and Vayu CPAPs.
The Club was introduced to Sli-do a digital engagement platform which allowed members and guests at their tables in groups to compete and answer questions on what they knew about the GG. Even guests were excited and will come back if we do more Sli-dos.A healthy debate was also had within the club after a presentation by Digital and Ai Literacy on 18th September and again Sli- do was deployed. Definitely an engagement tool to be encouraged in other clubs.
RC Buloba revenged and returned a joint fellowship on 24th September 2024 following the one we hosted in August 2024, the month was crowned off by Membership Survey Feedback. More and more members and Rotaractors are now joining us for our service projects as was seen in Service projects – Entebbe 8th September, Nyenga Seminary, Rotaractors joined us for tree planting we hope they are also adding these to their club activities.
The club’s Run for the Nile Committee has also started preparations for the fundraising run in H1 of 2025, meant to raise funds for environmental interventions around Lake Victoria such as tree planting and waste management. This year we have invited the Rotary Clubs of Jinja, Jinja City, Njeru, and Source of the Nile, Bunga and Kyadondo to collaborate with us to raise funds and mobilize participants to attend. All clubs in Districts 9213, 9214 and 9212 are invited to participate in this run.
All clubs stand to benefit from the proceeds of the run based on they raise from selling kits and the sponsors they bring on board. These proceeds can be used for their club’s interventions.
The District Foundation team applauded Rotary Club of Kampala Central for being at the 35,559$ mark for TRF. This of course is thanks to our member Rotarian Rt. Hon Thomas Tayebwa. We still need another 14,441$ as a club to hit our 50,000$ Target. I am optimistic it is possible. The highlight of the months has to be without a doubt the Club outing. We were joined by members from other clubs and Rotaractors. We had the selection of our friends of the year.
The coming month of October is also going to be engaging as we continue tree planting and will also have a medical outreach in Lukwanga. I appeal to club members to increase their service to humanity by visiting and learning from other clubs, participating in our fellowships, as well as our service projects. This is what makes you a true Rotarian.
Special recognition goes out to Ivan Muyima who coordinated the Cancer Run within the club and brought on board many sponsors, Wilson Asiimwe for his dedication towards mobilization and execution of service projects, Nathan Kamba for putting together the financials to build our financial statements, Robert Ssebugwawo (Coach Bob) for being a great ambassador, each member who has paid up their dues and is therefore in good standing, each member who has participated in club community projects from July to September 2024.
