Humboldt Rotary Sponsors Exchange Student
The Rotary Club of Humboldt is sponsoring an exchange student for this year. His name is Gerson Sordi Junior from Paraiso do Norte, Brazil.
Gerson is a delightful and energetic young man who is eager to learn about America. He is sixteen years old and has been staying with his host family since August 12th when he arrived. He is enrolled as a junior in Humboldt High School along with two other exchange students this year.
Gerson's parents are Gerson and Dedimar and he is the only child. His father is a farmer and owner in a ethanol plaint and his mother is an attorney and social worker.
Gerson enjoys playing the guitar, listening to music and using his computer. He wants to study economics in college. He enjoys being able to be at school in Humboldt in less than five minutes. This is a real treat since he has to ride a bus for 30 km or almost 19 miles each way back in Brazil.
Gerson has never scene snow and is looking forward to seeing the first snow storm in Iowa; however, he doesn't look forward to the extreme cold. In Brazil, it never freezes where Gerson lives.
He will be in Humbodt for one year and will return hom e in August of 2012. He currently lives with his host family, Brian and Kathy Nokleby and their two sons, Landon and Chase. He will move to live with another host family, Dale and Peg Heider, sometime in February.
The Rotary Club of Humboldt welcomes Gerson and hopes he has a wonderful year in Humboldt.
