The Humboldt Rotary Club 20th Fly In/Drive In Breakfast was held on Sunday, August 1, 2021 at the Humboldt Municipal Airport. Gronbach's Grillers served scrambled eggs, pancakes and sausage to 775 people. The Rotary Club members served the milk, orange juice and coffee as well as providing assistance with seating and clearing of tables. There were 32 planes in attendance with the pilots enjoying a free breakfast. Rotarian Dave Dodgen along with Jason Heinz and Ryan Hoard provided plane rides for 85 individuals.
Special guest Aaron McCartan of the US Aerobatic Team was in attendance and shared information on his plane and experiences. Those in attendance when he arrived and departed enjoyed a special treat watching him fly. For the first time we also had Jive for Five playing music for the crowd. Many thanks to this group for sharing their musical talent with us. Also attending the event were Rotary 5970 District Governor Jeff Hassman and Assistant District Governor Bill Hamm.
The Humboldt Rotary Club members would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to Dave and Deb Dodgen for organizing the event, Jim Gronbach and his crew for cooking the breakfast, Hy-Vee for the syrup donation, Joel Dodgen and Clifton Kalafatich for taking charge of the plane rides, Tate Satern and Fletcher Satern for directing air traffic, and the Humboldt Airport Commission for the use of the facility. The proceeds of this year's fly in have been designated for the Rotary International Polio End Now Program and Rotary Scholarships.
Thanks to all for attending this fun event! The weather cooperated and a good time was had by all. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
