Interact Update

Since the Interact Club members have not been able to come to a meeting, I thought I would take this opportunity to share with you what we have been up to, and what is still yet to come.

 

In the first half of the year as many of you know, we traveled to New York City and attended Rotary UN Day.  The trip was amazing and very inspiring.  The club submitted a video, based on the trip, to the Rotary Interact Video Contest.  We also continued our service work right here on the island.  Club members volunteered and helped with Stand Up to Cancer, the Bar Harbor Kids Book Festival, and the YWCA's Children's Bazaar.  They made Gratitude Grams at Thanksgiving to raise money for Syrian Refugees.  They collected and delivered toys for the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital.  Our club helped with this too!

 

They recently held a dance at the high school that raised $720.  This money is being donated to a Human Trafficking organization.  This is a direct result of attending UN Day.  The kids were so moved by the presentation there, that they wanted to help.  I find this impressive, in that they didn't just listen to the problem, they took action.  Yes!

 

As we begin the second half of the year, we have three big projects ahead of us.  We are painting the entire inside of Serendipity, which is the retail store associated with the Bar Harbor Food Pantry.  This is happening 2/5 to 2/7.

 

Next I will be working with the kids to complete the application to apply for a Rotary Presidential Citation.  We only have one more task to complete, which we will be working on in February.  These kids so deserve this honor.

 

Our year culminates with the Interact Prom on May 15, 2016.  We host a prom for the kids involved with Downeast Horizons.  This is a very fun event that everyone looks forward to.

 

Additionally, we will be doing many other smaller acts of service as we are called.  Such as doing the Candy Gram fundraiser on Valentine's Day.  When Rotarians ask for help, we are there for you!

 

I know that I missed other things that we have done. But please know that the kids are working hard and they are simply the best of the best!
