The 2016 council on Legislation has completed its work!  Pending receipt of their final report, it is clear that things will be quite a bit different in how clubs meet and who they recruit.  
  • The only requirement for club meetings is that they be at least twice a month
  • In-person clubs may meet "online," and e-clubs in person
  • Clubs may amend their bylaws to supersede RI attendance requirements
  • Clubs may choose to amend the classification principle any way they want -- including disregarding it entirely
  • Clubs may choose to disregard most membership requirements in the Standard Club Constitution regarding membership -- including the current limit of only two kinds: Active & Honorary
  • The qualification for membership has been simplified to say that "a club be composed of adult persons who demonstrate good character, integrity, and leadership; posses good reputation within their business, professions, and/or community; and are willing to serve in their community and/or around the world."  
The specific enactment that was proposed to provide for a new category of membership: Associate, was rejected; but, it may be that with the authorization to disregard the limit of types of membership to only two may have resulted in this proposal to be moot.
 
All of these changes (and many others) do not become effective until July 1, 2016, which leaves plenty of time for clarifications and implementation instructions.  Stay tuned!
