Business of Reading Festival. Along with Conners-Emerson School (K-8) in Bar Harbor, the club sponsors an annual event to help kids understand why reading is important, not only for pleasure but also in the business world. For one week in May, the school sets aside a half-hour each day when local business volunteers read to students from a favorite book, newspaper or magazine. Readers explain how reading is important to their work.

In 2001, the Maine State Board of Education awarded a “Making the Grade” citation to Conners-Emerson in recognition of the Business of Reading program.
