Rotary Dar Marathon 2010 was held on Oct14th at the Police officers mess and this year our cause was "Maji kwa Maisha" ( Water for life). The funds raised from this event will go towards providing running water to 25 schools in Dar-es-Salaam with WaterAid as our implementation partners. The event was in two parts. Half a Marathon of 21.1Kms and a walk of 9ms. Both starting and ending at the Police officers mess. This event was a joint event conducted by the six clubs in Dar es Salaam and our goal was to raise 100M tshs.
The youngest walker was Jamari Papu ( 5yrs old ) and the oldest walker was past president Hon Ali Hassan Mwinyi ( 86 yrs old) who was our guest of honor. The fastest runner was Shimir Ramji and the highest collector with 6.8M on his pledge was Dewar. We collected Tshs 142.5M in total from this event and combined with the money in kind a total a tshs 212.5M. Our main sponsors for the event was Bank M and the Tanzanite level sponsors this year was Spicenet, Toyota, Vodacom and TBL and our platinum sponsors were Global outdoor , Soft-Tech, Abbasi , Faidika. Our Gold and Silver level sponsors are BOA bank, Bank Abc, Nabaki, Pan Energy Africa, Coast Millers, Metl, Bhakressa,Team africa, Colorprint, Balton, Frieght forwarders, Kerselys, Pc Solutions, Ebiz,Aon, CMC, and Insignia. Our sponsors in kind were Aquarock, Pepsi,Security printers, Ultimate security, Roots, Global outdoor, Aon,Movenpick,Shoppers, Lacoupe, Slipway waterfront restaurant, police and brass band, Police officers mess and the media coverage was by Channel ten and CTV. The event was well supported by the Rotarians from the 6 clubs.
