President Arnold Oliver rang the bell to kick off the meeting followed by the invocation by Dave Hartman. Cara Sauceda then led the Club in the pledge and song.
We had the pleasure of honoring the February youth of the month this week. Steve Priester introduced Nathaniel Dyches. Nathaniel is graduating this year and is headed to college to play college football. Following college, he plans to continue his career in football through coaching. He has accomplished a lot while in Wichita Falls and we were honored to have him join the meeting.
This week we were very fortunate to welcome a new member, Kenny Weeks. He was brought into the club by John Deason. Continue to make Kenny feel welcome over the new few weeks.
Dave Hartman then introduced the program, The History of Engineering at MSU Texas. The program was given by our fellow club member Dr. Sheldon Wang. Dr. Wang started the program discussing the history of Engineering and the founding fathers of the Engineering/ Industrial Revolution. He then provided images of the MSU Engineering trip to London recounting their experiences when he was able to take the students overseas. In 2009, the Mechanical Engineering program at MSU obtained accreditation, it has to go through evaluation every 6 years. Interestingly, the MSU program obtained its accreditation prior to larger schools in Texas including the University of North Texas. Dr. Wang recognized James McCoy, Charlie Engelman, Jesse Rogers, and Howard Ferrell and their importance to the success of Engineering at MSU. He ended the program discussing what the Engineering program has to offer. He provided examples of the labs that are offered in the program and gave a list of the jobs that graduates of the MSU Engineering program have taken, showing that the graduates are in high demand. The program and enrollment is continuing to grow and if you have any interest in activities offered by the department or interest in getting involved get in touch with Dr. Wang.
The meeting was brought to an end with the presentation of the speakers gift, a book that will be placed at Wichita Falls High School followed by the Four Way Test.
