At 12:05 on the dot president Cara rang us to our feet. Dave lead us in prayer followed by Cara leading us in the pledge and song. Everybody joined in to sing Sweet Caroline followed by a round of ROTARY and lots of hand shaking. James Hughes offered a big thanks on behalf of his dad Jim Hughes for the park bench inscribed with his name at Rotary Park. He followed that up by sharing the brag bucket. Cara recognized Cory Smith with the Boys and Girls Club for all of her support for the club. Brady announced that he was going to a granddad again not too long from now. It was very good to have Richard Boyd with us after his run in with some equipment while working out. Tommy Richardson was good enough to bring him as he has a cast on his right foot and leg. Tommy did say he was not offering any extra handicap adjustments on the golf course although it might be a while before Richard will be able to swing a club. But you never know, it’s hard to keep a good man down.
Josh Phillips reported that the board received a special one time request from the Memorial HS band for an emergency need for a student. Both high schools will be making a joint trip to London for the first of the year. The board agreed to match up to $1,000 of individual contributions from flag funds. If inclined donations can be made electronically or by check to the rotary club which will then match them for a maximum of $2,000 to the band. They expect to have 10 different experiences while in London.
The youth of the month was presented by Larry Tegtmeyer. Jonas Carroll is a 10th grader at Memorial HS. She plays various sports in addition to being in the ROTC program. She has been a member of the central club but now helps mentor the younger members at the new Eastside club. Larry added that she is very outgoing and was one of a very few who offered a few comments to us.
Josh then introduced our program, game warden for Wichita County Dillan Conley. He focused mainly on the upcoming dove season which starts September 1. He reminded us that there is a 15 bird daily limit and a 45 possession limit. They are projecting up to 3000 hunters in our area this season. Dillan said hunters must have a license by 9/1 of course, must have a migratory bird stamp, and a limit of three rounds at a time per gun. He displayed a slide showing many different types of dove but we mainly have mourning dove and white wing dove. Additionally you must have permission to hunt on at least ten acres and baiting is not allowed which is different from deer hunting. A hunter must be at least 18 years old unless accompanied by an adult. There will be additional game wardens sent up here to help monitor north North Texas. Fines can vary from $25 to $500 if violations are determined. Dillan answered various questions from the group and passed out a pamphlet for Texas outdoors containing all the current regulations regarding hunting, fishing, and boating. Looks to available online as well.
Meeting was concluded with the four way test and we all headed our way.
