President Cara rang us attention at 12:03 with Dave Hartman offering up the invocation for our meeting. Pres Cara also lead us in the pledge and our sing alongs. Judy Koetter announced this week’s birthdays who included Pres Cara and Tommy Richardson. Mike Seville, Jon Dearolf and Justin Bitz were not there to receive their birthday sweet rolls. The leftovers were quickly auctioned off, and won by former President John Mayfield. Thanks for your donation!
There were no visitors today and no concerns announced for the sunshine report. Noros had a good day collecting donations to the brag bucket including another really good day on the golf course by Richard and Tommy recording scores below their ages. I still say they need an audit, any volunteers?
For the Membership Spotlight, Will introduced Sheldon Wang who gave us a membership moment. He has been a professor at MSU for 16 years. Noros brought him into the club in 2017. For the last few years he has helped oversee our Rotaract club at MSU. Thanks Sheldon, for all you do to help mold future Rotarians!
Cara announced that our exchange student from Slovenia is here and starting school. A couple of items on her list to do while in the Falls include going to a rodeo and shoot a gun. She may be in luck as there is a rodeo going on now and someone mentioned that John Deason might show her the gun range. Who knew. August 28 our district youth chair, Steve Trine, will be here to speak. Hopefully Paulina will be able to meet with us also then.
Josh Phillips then introduced Scot Hafley, acting WFISD athletic director, who in turn introduced the head coaches of our two high schools. Greg Davis who comes to us from Fort Worth is the new head coach at Legacy spoke first. He said they are expecting a much improved year as the kids have more experience and are very fired up entering this football season.
They have 47 varsity players and expect to play a more balanced style this year. Coach Davis fielded several more questions before Mark Bender gave us run down for Memorial. Of course he has been with the WFISD for 17 years including the head coach of Rider with a very strong winning record. He said their focus will be on mental discipline. He did say some kids have a little trouble keeping up with the time. Joe Castles is projected to the starting quarterback as he is one of the best he has had over the years. He added that the coaches will also be closely monitoring their grades as a high priority. They hope to make the playoffs again & another possible match up with Lubbock Cooper. Of course there is the hometown rivalry on November 7th and probably a bigger deal for the adults than the kids. President Cara ended our meeting by leading us in the 4-Way Test.
