Our honorable president Arnold rang us to our feet followed by Dave Hartman with our invocation. Cara was unable to be at the meeting so Arnold lead us in the pledge and song. A few of us had to hum as we were at a loss for words. Carol introduced two guests she had invited to our meeting. Hope they liked the meeting and will come back. Lisa Stephens-Musick was not present to receive her very valuable birthday prize and will have to settle for an extra desert next time. There was no member identified as needed our well wishes or concerns. Our good Dr. David Spencer did contribute to our brag fund and announced that he had a new granddaughter. After some initial issues both the mother and granddaughter are doing well. Congratulations David.
Shirley Craft gave a little preview of our November 10 meeting as a special recognition for veterans involving veterans from the various branches of the services. Everyone is invited to ask a veteran they know to come as a guest on that day also. On a different note, she is also looking for anybody who might be familiar with the District 5790 Vibrant Club Award as she is working on this as a special project as well. It was also noted that the monthly board meetings are now going to held at the new Union Square real estate building in Parker Square. Anyone can attend except maybe Noros who it’s rumored is on the no-fly list.
The program of the MSU basketball coaches was the introduced by Dave Hartman.
The women's coach Chris Reay spoke first. His wife spoke to us a few weeks back. His dad is from New Zealand making him a dual citizen. He has an earlier connection to MSU as he played basketball for Jeff Rey when he was coaching the men’s team. So, it was not a complete surprise that he has four international students playing for him. He does have a couple of area players as well. The ladies usually play before the men starting at 5:30 and followed by the men. Tickets are good for both games so you can get two for the price of one. Of course, he is expecting a good year with the first game here starting Nov 11 followed by one Dec 10. After Xmas break things really pick up for both basketball teams
The men’s coach, Justin Leslie then gave us a run down on his background and the team. He and his wife are from California with him growing up on a small farm. He couched for a number of years in California before applying for the head couch here. He came very close to winning a national title while there. As a side note he also is an active biker which made Wichita Falls the perfect match for him and his family. While he had a rough start due to injuries the team finished very strong last year. Barring a repeat of untimely injuries, he is looking forward to a strong season as are all the players. Both he and couch Reay are very impressive in their presence and with a focus on character and graduating as well as basketball. Their players should leave MSU well prepared for whatever lays ahead. Expect both to do well.
Noros called a short meeting of the membership committee after our meeting.
The speakers gift went to Wichita Falls High School.
Arnold sent us on our way with a final gong of the bell.
