President Stacie bought us to our feet promptly at 12:04. A skinny Dave Hartman offered up a prayer with a special request for healing for John Deason and family. We all are hoping and praying for our good friend and fellow Rotarian. Get well cards were on each table for everyone to sign.
Past President Arnold then led us in the pledge and a round of God Bless America followed by Rotary and handshakes all around.
There were no birthdays to celebrate for this week. Shirley Craft did report that her husband Kenn Hill was back home from his time in rehab.
They was no announced program as it was a club assembly day. Stacie did report that the board had formed a couple of new committees to help the club moving forward. We could use some more community exposure over and above the flags. We do a lot that many people in the community are not aware of. One possible new (formerly used) program might be a Service Excellence Award which would recognize a fireman or policeman for their service to our community.
Carol Murray had a busy day collecting for the brag bucket. Will, Stacie, Dave and Noel all made brags and donations. It was a good day for the bucket. She also called a meeting of her citizen of the year committee to go over some possible names following our meeting.
We did have several guests including one out of town special guest. Dave Hartman introduced his two guests Dick Crislic and Miguel Lecheuda. Lance Spruiell then introduced his wife Pam, mother-in-law Chrys Stephenson and Arno Jueke from Germany. Arno’s father was a NATO commander at SAFB in the late 70’s when their families got to know each other. He is 61 it has been 40 years since his last trip here. He gave an interesting overview of how many Germans came to settle in Texes. They seem to have started in central Texas after a political uprising in 1831 in Germany and starred spreading from there even to north Texas.
As a side note Arno just finished his year as president of his Rotary club. He said their focus was on education, clean water in Moldova, and helping the Ukraine with hospital needs. Lance said he just found out that they both were Rotarians so Lance invited him to our meeting. Thanks Lance.
We finished up with a group picture with Arno and the four way test.
