Today at 12:05 President John stepped to the front, struck our Rotary Bell to call us Rotarians and guest to our feet to start todays Rotary Club meeting.
David Hartman provided us with another outstanding prayer today. Thank you Dave, for your great words of inspiration with your prayer today. Arnold Oliver, without any jokes, was next to the podium to lead us in Pledge and Song. Today we sang verses 1 & 2 of R-O-T-A-R-Y. I did not know that this song had more than 1 verse – sure glad I was at Rotary Club today.
Several visitors and guests were welcomed at our meeting today. We all hope you enjoyed today’s meeting and will come back soon. You are always welcome and hope you might even consider membership with our Club in the future.
Brady Woolsey introduced James Hawkins as Boys & Girls Club City-Youth of the Month. James is the 14 year old son of Kara Taylor. This young man is very involved with chores around the house, supervising his younger brother and helping with the family pets. James is a 9th grader at Legacy High School, maintains a 3.0 GPA and his favorite subject is Science. He is a member of the JROTC at school. After he graduates for Legacy, he would like to go to college, receive his degree and become a Nuclear Engineer. We wish you good luck in your future James.
Colton Heinrich introduced a new member to our Club today. Welcome Cameron Turnquist to our Club and we hope that you will enjoy being a part of this great organization.
Membership Spotlight - Larry Tegtmeyer has had successful career with the Texas Highway Department for many years and was involved with the “high 5 fly over” in the Dallas area. In 2004 Larry moved to Wichita Falls and continued with TXDOT.
Josh Phillis introduced our program presenter today, Jennica Lambert from River Bend Nature Center. This wonderful nature center, which was a joint venture between the City of Wichita Falls and the Junior League, will celebrate 30 years this summer as part of our community. They open their doors to over 44,000 visitors each year of which 51% are from outside Wichita Falls. Jennica told about many special events held at RBNC during the year such as: Dallas Zoo, Bug Fest, Electric Critters, Not-so-Scary. She explained and showed some of the current renovation that was underway at the Nature Center.
Jennica brought two of her friends with her to Rotary today, but I do not think they will be considering as potential members for Rotary Club. She had with her 2 Madagascar hissing cockroaches. These roaches are native to the Madagascar Island in the Southern Hemisphere and off the east coast of Africa. I am very glad that we can see, at our very own RBNC, these “hissing” cockroaches. Thanks Jennica for this outstand information and the good news about the future for River Bend Nature Center.
President John returned to the podium and announced the Jim Hughes; a 45 year member of our Rotary Club had resigned. We will all miss you Jim and we all hope you will still come visit soon. Woo-Woo. (train whistle).
We all stood, repeated the Rotary Four Way Test, and adjourned to meet again next week.
